Hello everybody

i'm david and with my wife peky, are planning a route from santiago to alaska. we are so enthusiastic about it. we are in the early planning stage


in our honeymoon we did a RWT , and it's really amazing adventure, incredible, now we want to travell in america, overland in a bike

we have some question, pleas help us

we have 3 month maybe 4 to do it? wil be enough?

what's would be the best bike to go? some people tell us honda translap, BMW 650, suzuki v-strom , etc . do you recommend someone? another one? if maybe i will buy it in a second hand?

what's a real budget per day?

what will be the real risk of this adventure?

Absolutely, of course more time is always better...

All of the bikes you mention are great. I personally had an F650 and loved it. However, I'd prefer the big GS. It's comfortable, has some weight and momentum, no chain to deal with, tubeless tires... again, just my opinion :innocent:

It depends on how you plan to arrange for overnight accommodations. Camping, hotels, hostels... Since you already did an RTW trip, you should have a good feeling about average daily expenses. In my experience, general travel expenses in Chile are somewhat comparable to the US. However, Alaska is definitely more expensive than the lower 48 states.

IMO, as everywhere else, be aware of your surroundings. I would not have a problem traveling from Chile to Alaska. Again, you have done a RTW trip, so you should now what to do and what to look for. Personally, I don't see any extraordinary risk.

I'm also in the planning stages of a trip, coicidently also from santiago up to alaska...and potentially across to europe via russia/asia. I've read a bunch of threads, mostly from a few years ago about travels after alaska as well. I'm currently doing some research on my trip so any extra handy info I find i'll post on this thread, and hopefully you could do the same. Cheers and best of luck.
