Santiago - Ushuaia refining my route!

Hey all,

looking to leave santiago on tuesday 7th dec, on my suzuki 125 soon. Yep i know its a small bike. But its light cheap and hey anything is possible!!

Heading south to ushuaia. My rough idea of a route for the first major section of my trip is as follows but im looking for ideas on alternatives, what you think to the route and suggestions on must see places or roads - bearing in mind i am looking for good photo oppurtunities for landscapes and interesting towns etc.

1. Santiago to Mendoza (from Upsallata which road is the most scenic to take?)
2. Head south along the Ruta 40 down to Las Lajas. Any suggestions along this route?
3. Cross back into Chile at the Pino Hachado crossing. Any issues? However i do want to see Bariloche in argentina as ive heard really good things about this area. Is there a better way to combine both the Lake District on Chile and Bariloche??
4. If i do 3 then from Pino Hachado ill head to Villarrica. do some travel around the lake district. Any cool trips you did around here?
5. Puerto Mont south via the caretta Austral. Is it possible to cross into Argentina from Villa Ohiggins? Or is the most south crossing from Coihaique? I also wondered if the whole thing is ridable or if ferries are required for certain sections?
6. Ruta 40 again south and continue on to Ushuaia. Maybe include Puerto Natales!

Carretera Austral - Amazing quality dirt road and even more amazing scenery
Southern Ruta 40 - The scenery is stagnant, the road quality is poor and the wind is bitch, but well worth the solitude and adventure. Get lost, have fun!

though the scenery of your route is not that fantastic but just enjoy the ride and have fun. :thumbup1: it's the matter of how you think of it as good or not. :scooter:

So above is my initial idea of a route. Unfortunately Suzuki when they said monday you will have all your papers and your padron - what they actually meant is monday i will have all my papers but my padron another week or two after.

I can not stay in santiago any longer... in fact i refuse. I think its leave or fly home and do it again at another time. Which sounds ridiculous.

so ive heard there is nothing between here and the Lakes in the south. Is this true or are there some hidden gems to go and find in middle chile?

Ill pick my padron up down south somewhere or get my hostel here to post it to a hostel down there.
