Scotland to Eastern Europe and back - 2009 interested?
 

Hello,

I have been wanting to do a good road trip over the last few years. Two weeks ago I was stuck in London Gatwick and I picked up Mike Carter's Uneasy rider. He followed the same route that I have been thinking about: UK, Holland, Denmark, Norway ... over to the Baltics and then onto Turkey.

In short I have a few weeks 2/3 for my trip! I would like to get the ferry over to Denmark (ideally) see Copenhagen, cross to Sweden blitz through to Finland and make a Ferry to Estonia. I really want to see Entonia and Latvia. I'll then return.

Another riders intersted? I rather enjoy the adventure of being on the road "alone"; but its nice to have a riding partner every now and then. I'll try to camp some and the rest of the time alternate between "nice" and not so nice places to kip. I'll be riding my trusty old Kawasaki ZRX 1100; so I will need to stop for petrol every 130 miles or so!

By the way I am up in Aberdeen; so I will be starting from there.

Hey there carbster09, like the sound of your route. I'm planning a similar trip from Glasgow to Bulgaria although my route is different to yours. I'm planning on leaving 1 week in June 09 via the chunnel. (see route here Google Maps)

I also might be doing it solo. Looking for advice as I'm new to all this. I'll be using my F800ST. So looking forward to it. Safe riding. :clap:

I like your route. One thing is that you have a goal; i.e. hitting the Black Sea. The one thing that puts me off is going through the tunnel. The tunnel itself is ok, but the traffic in the southeast sucks. I was thinking the ferry from Edinburgh or Newcastle. Then onto Holland. Let's stay in touch. How were you planning on travelling; tents or B&B's or a combination? ARe you an experienced long distance traveller or relatively new to it? I like that BMW 800. Nice bike.:thumbup1:

Edinburgh ferry stops in September 2008
 

Before you plan your route too much plan on heading to Newcastle first - unfortunately the Edinburgh Zeebrugge ferry stops operating in September 2008 - that'll teach people like myself who 'kept meaning to use it'.

I think it's more to do with the Government subsidy being withdrawn. When they went down to 1 ferry from 2 it was full more than empty.

strangely enough im off to eastern europe ( slovakia , hungary and poland ) in august . When in 09 are you thinking of doing this trip ? Couldnt do all of it but wouldnt mind meeting you in the Baltics for a couple of days - i really fancy Lithuania :thumbup1:

Are you going to E Europe this year or next? I was thinking June or July of 08. I am going to haul *ss across Norway and Sweden and get the ferry for Estonia. I'll spend my time seeing the Baltics and then blitz it back to Denmark for the ferry to Newcastle. Riga is big on my list. I might go for the weekend on a reconn trip later in the year, via KLM!

Hey Carbster, I'm planning on taking 3 weeks for the whole trip. I may change the return and come up via the balkin coast, heard it's pretty cool. I plan on doing a combo of B&B's and campsites. And by the way I've only got two trips under my belt, and both were UK only. Bit of a newbie eh? Donnie
