Shipping is booked and flight tickets bought!
As of today its finally done!
I was able to book the shipping for my Hilux to Liverpool and the plane tickets are bought to Manchester. Both me and the trucklette should arrive in Liverpool on April fools day (hopefully I wont be the fool ) I have entered a neat event in Portugal that goes from the very north to the very south of the country from April 20to the 24th,on all sorts of tracks and trails that meander through little hamlets and villages along the way. Hopefully sometime later in 2022 I can actually get over to Morocco and sample a little bit of the African continent if the ferries in Spain resume,if not we can see about going through France and get the ferry there. For the many folks that have taken the time to provide constructive information while I was planning this, I want to thank you all. I still have certain details to confirm such as the insurance,where/how im sleeping ect, but these will get done over the next few weeks. Next step will be to finish checking the trucklette to make sure everything is 120% ready, driving down to Halifax to drop it off at the docks and flying back to Montreal. I just figured I could not wait any longer, it was now or it might never happen, because:life. I am not doing any planning long term, once these hurdles have actually been past,I will work on the next section of the plan,or else I think I get too bogged down in the details. Happy Travels all Paulo |
ACT
Are you following the ACT route ?
Who is organizing this event ? Remember: We drive on the right side. I was very closed to get badly hit by a GB reg bike today. That I met on the wrong side of the road..... A group of 25 BMW 1250 GS driving without any care. As if they where alone on the roads. |
Have a good trip and let us know how you get on.

I dont think its anything hard core, im not interested in doing hard core off roading, but I also dont want to be tarred with the "Overlander" brush either as I dont have a roof top tent, fridge, house battery(fill in blank here) or the generally expensive farkles that appear to grace many of the overland vehicles we see in North America.I put the Hilux together to take me to amazing places, not to do amazing things. This is on my dime, and being done my way, likely with a bunch of errors or the wrong equipment/shoes/sandals/vehicle ect,:oops2: but I dont give 2 hoots! you can beat to death the reasons you are not ready to go yet, but for me, the one thing this pandemic has taught me is simply not to wait or waste time until all the stars are lines up. I figured I never got 100% in school, and in some cases 50% was good enough to pass, so you pass and figure out the next bit when you get there, rinse and repeat.:Beach: Paulo |
I like your point: "I put the Hilux together to take me to amazing places, not to do amazing things."
"Overland" travel can be whatever people think it means, obviously, however I too focus on the travel more than the means. Have fun! |

Just one last update on the event, If you get a chance to get to Portugal and do this event, DO IT! it was way more off road than I ever bargained for, the organisation was impressive (I honestly dont have the words to tell you how top notch this whole event was) The scenery was breathtaking, I think we used every mountain range from north to south of the country. The food was premium, the overnight stays were outstanding in location and comfort (one of the nights each of the participants stayed in individual condos complete with garages ), it mentions 4 and 5 star accomodations, but you always have doubts about what is written vs reality, not in this case. It was tough, it was gorgeous, it was everything I would have wanted. And Im going again ,as soon as I can make it happen. Paulo |
