Siberian road gap finished!?
 

Hi!

The gap on the road Lake Baikal to Vladivostok,the swampy area when one have's to take a bike on train,Finished!?

So says Simon McCarthy and Georgie Simmonds on January e-zine!

Is that true?

(Land Rover, not bike, though).

Hi jondoe,
yep, the gap between lake baikal and vladivostok, more precise between Tschernyschewsk and Tschita is closed. this means the roadworkers are still working on the road but many locals use the road. we travelled the whole part on our DR600's in september 2002. Some places were sandy because of the base of the new road and others were very rocky/lose stones.
There are no river crossings to make. bridges are build and if you can not use the bridge there is a bypass through the next village.

in 2000 after a week of rain I took the train, easy cheap and lots of vodka :-)
