South East Asia - Thailand To Yunnan To Vietnam
Hi all. Trying to plan a 2-3 week trip from Thailand through southern China (Yunnan) and down to Vietnam. First thought is to buy a bike in Chang Mai and sell before leaving Vietnam. Has anyone done anything like this? Can foreigners buy bikes in Thailand? What are those border crossings like? Is 2-3 weeks (about as long as my rear end can take!) reasonable - given the distance involved and road conditions I can expect? Finally, I was thinking of putting in shortly after Tet. Is that a good time to do the trip?
Thanks all. Looking forward to any thoughts. Tony |
Thailand to Yunana and Vietnam
Hi Thailnad is no problem on a bike as is Lao and Cambodia ( as long as the bike has plates and documants in your name. China is no go legally, unless you pay an official guide supplied by the Chinese at $100 plus per day...Vietnam is only possible if the bike is under 175 cc and the border guard is being kind. You can look on this site re China and Vietnam and also on GT riders..loads of info...have fun.
