I is a little crazy. If you are gonna stay in one of the big campgrounds like Cabbage Patch of Buffalo Chip you need to make reservations/pay early. If you want to do the downtown scene it is best to get there early on main street, park the bike and just walk around. Some nice rides, Custer Battleground, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood. Excellent people watching. You will love it or hate it.

I have been going to sturgis every few years for a long long time. I usually just camp a night or two and really enjoy a intense time of people and machine watching. I try to avoid sightseeing around the area because the roads are crowded with low skill riders.
Get to downtown sturgis in the AM, grab a cool drink and sit on the grass of the police station and watch people and bikes. Lot's of cops in sturgis and the crowd tends to be older harley riders.
There is something for almost everyone and the black hills and west are some great riding areas.
Don't go if you don't like people and harley loud pipes most of the night. I showed up on my clsssic old kawasaki last time and people thought it was cool. Even the film crew at full throttle saloon checked it out.
Don't tell anyone but there is a great tree shaded campground with showers and breakfast about 20 miles away at bella fouche.

Scenic SD

I've stayed at the Badlands White River KOA campground east of Scenic SD. It's got all you need including breakfast. In the summer months be prepared for extremely hot hot hot temperatures and non-stop winds 24/7.

Bush camp

Back in 2010 i had chance to be part of stugis rally,it was a lot of fun, nice hot weather, nice people all over, will go again, some day.
I'm not sure if you are into camping, there is camping heaven out there(but off course in the bush) just head out side a way from ligths, for couple miles, look for dirt rd,and look for flat place to camp.
Very romantic, pace full and free,no body around, just you(your love one)and sky full of stars.
Let me know if you are interested,Ill give you some direction where I stayed for 5 days.

Pixie69......Sturgis 2015.....

Silly question perhaps but HOW are you going?
Riding....hopefully but what kind of bike?
From where?
How long?

Am in Scotland now but have been to Sturgis four/five times. Before they built the humongous Mt Rushmore parking lot then after ......
Lots of ideas, lots of maps.
Try to get into Glencoe Campground. Busy, bustling, fun but not too extreme.
Message me if you need any info.....?

What about Applecross 25-26 of this month, can you make it?
