The Italian Job Road
I work in a pub, and today one of my regulars asked me if I knew where the road that the opening sequnce of the Italian job was filmed. The scene where the Miura drove through the Alps.
Google tells me it's the the S26 from Col du Petit St Bernard to Aosta, How much of the original route from 1969 is still ride-able. Thanks |
I have no idea about whether the road is still there, it was 30 years ago when I rode along it but here is the opening title in question which is my favourite of any film, great scenery, car and music, the rest of the film is pretty good as well.

Isn't it the Grand St Bernard that ends up in Aosta? The Petit St B goes between Bourg St Maurice and Courmayeur (and Aosta the other way - eventually). Google street view works on both of them so you can search the scenery to find the exact locations. The Grand St B is a main route these days so pretty uninteresting except for the loop over the top that the tunnel bypasses. The Petit St B is much more biker material. I've ridden both of them numerous times but not recently so the memories are all a bit soft focus.
