Three days drive from London to Wales
Hi,
Planning to drive from London to wales with the family with 10 year old kids for 3-4 days. Any suggestions, places to see, scenic routes, etc. please? Thanks |
There's plenty to aim for over 3 days

I would say take in any, or all, of the national parks of Wales (but avoid those which are under many metres depth of snow drifts at present). The national parks = The Brecon beacons, the Pembrokeshire coast and Snowdonia (did I miss any?). You could also try the other areas of outstanding natural beauty (ONB) outside the parks, such as the Gower peninsula, or mid-Wales in general. |
As above, but it is mighty cold at the moment. Rather than just barrelling up the M4, why not take the M5 into Gloucester, saving yourself the crossing fee on the severn bridge. Gloucester is supposed to be a nice place. Then maybe have a look at Strattford on Avon, lovely place. Malvern, Ledbury, Hereford. Loads of places to take up three days. And a lot more scenic route.

Go over the old Severn Bridge and check out Tintern Abbey.
Head to the city of Cardiff. Cardiff Castle, Castell Coch. Caerphilly Castle. West Wales beaches such as Barafundle. The tiny city of St David's. Aberystwyth, devils bridge, reservoirs on the way to Rhyader. Through Brecon and the beacons to Hay on Wye. That's a lot of driving but some ideas there. And well worth checking on the snow first. |
No ones mentioned the A303 past Stonehenge, seeing as you have the time. Bit educational for the kids to.
