TRANSAFRICA: "Milan - Cape Town" on a Harley: Mission accomplished
Hi everybody,
just back home from our journey from Milan to Cape Town on my harley davidson road king 1998. We ran 14.770 km in 37 days, starting from Milan, to get the ferry Genua to Tunis, then crossing Lybia, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and reaching South Africa. We crossed the nightmare Moyale, Marsabit, Isiolo stretch but the Harley was strong enough. We made also other 500 km off road in Namibia. My friend was on a BMW GS Adventure and suffered a lot either corrugations as well as sand. He dropped down once and destroyed the touratec luggage set. My Harley was definitely more off road suitable that the above. I'm open to answer to all the questions and requests of information you may need on the trip. Ciao Roberto Parodi |
Well done, its nice to hear complimentary remarks about Harley Davidsons, especially your remark, 'My Harley was definitely more off road suitable that the above'. (BMW GS Adventure!)
Would be nice if you posted some pictures. |

Looks like a fantastic trip and loved the photos on your website!
There are so many threads about "which bike?" on HU that it's nice to see someone take the bike he loves or is most comfortable on. |
Love it. I really do.

Hi Man,
You took some really nice pics even 37 days seem very short. The same trip took me 9 Months. You probably didnt even carry a tent but just sleped beside your bike like a real cowboy :) Greetings from Brasil, Tobi |

family - biker!
yes it was quite quick but the scope was not to make turism but to live the journey meeting people on the road. Furthermore I am used to do trips more like "RAID" than life-journey. ,
Milano-New Delhi in 21 days, Milano-Dakar in 15 days, Milano - Tamanrasset in 8+8 days (going and coming back), Dakar- Timbouctu- Lomè in 20 days Family is waiting for me at home: I miss them so much!!!!!!:innocent: |
