Trip through Baja
Hi all, new here.
I'm planning a trip from Mexico City to San Diego through Baja. Is there anything to watch out for? I only get about 200km per tank. Is this a concern? Are there plenty of places for gas? Thanks |
I am assuming that you are intending to follow the paved highway Mex1 from Pichilingue to Tijuana in which case you should have no great problem as gas is available at very regular spacing in Baja and very rare to have a 200km stretch with not at least a private seller . The stretch north from the BCS/BCN border to Catavina may, (may!) give you a problem if the private seller at the Bahia de Los Angeles crossroad exit is not there selling gas out of drums in his truck. Just mooch around a bit at the abaroteria and houses 10?km north of the Santa Rosalilita exit, they will probably have a stash. Else get a couple of big plastic soda or water bottles full of gas in Guerrero Negro and carry them as a temporary jerry can.Careful though not to spill any on hot parts as you ride.

Thanks Sjoerd,
It seems like it should be fine. I don't have bags but i'll have a roll with sleeping bag and some clothes and tools. Thanks again |
Pick up a copy of "Motorcycle Journeys through Baja" by Clement Salvadori. Well worth it.
Avail from http://www.whitehorsepress.com A little dated, but plenty of infi - mile-by-mile. [This message has been edited by tor1150r (edited 10 February 2006).] |
