Turkey 2012
Turkey 2012.
We will be riding into Turkey in August 2012 from Bulgaria on the E87 at Malko Tranovo and basically following the Black Sea all the way to Rize where I will be collecting a spare set of tyres, then riding down to Erzurum then crossing into Georgia at either Vale or Karcahi. Has anyone ridden the route along the Black sea and have any ideas of things to do and places to see along the way we hope to spend 5/6 days in Turkey. Eric :thumbup1: |
Hy Eric.
Seems like we have similar plans for this year as I already ansered in your Georgia 2012 thread. I've never been to Turkey before, so I don't really know what it is like there. I think you are gonna have to travel a lot of kilometers every Day if you only have 5 -6 days to get the whole north coast behind you. To me it always helps a lot, to plan my routes on MapSource and use the "Show in Google Earth" button, to then look up the pictures that are saved on Google Earth at the shown places, so you get an idea of what the area looks like. And of cause the internet has tons of information too. I think the mountains (north-eastern area of turkey) are very nice for riding by bike !! this is our route for turkey. I hope this might be some help for you. Excuse my english! :) http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6452/turkeyu.jpg the distance for this route is a bit more than 2500km! Greetings Joel |
Hi, Turkey is an amazing country to tour with fantastic people. An easy gravel road is from OF (between Trabzon and Rize) to Bayburt is incredible, see photo. Road of Stones at Kemaliye is out your way but worth a visit (will post photo) and of course the famous Cappadocia. Andy

Thanks for that, i am using Europe 2012 on Mapsource, so much to see on the way, so difficult to plan, but i do need more days i had allowed 44 days upto China 35 in China and 7 in Laos, but keep finding news things to see and new routes to ride, to much imformation out there. Eric |
MUSTS:
1. Amasra 2. Sinop 3. Trabzon : Maçka-Sümela Monastery, Uzungöl, 4. Rize : Ayder Yaylası 5. Taste delicious local food on the route. Fish species and ask for tasty local food there and just taste them. Good way to ask for good small restaurants. Many in the area. |
Turkey
I'm really eager to go to Turkey reading all your notes....finally made the decision so will be heading there in June. I have no fixed route but like to stay away from bigger cities and ride the countryside. Will do some of the famous sites and hope to make it east as far as time will allow. Is the road of stones doable on a cruiser?! I'm riding a Kawa Vulcan and don't mind some gravel , unpaved roads as long as it is not too bad. How about the weather in June.... Just can't wait! Might see you boys and girls on the way... Greetings, Rob.

Hi, road of stones can be done on a cruiser. here is a photo. Agarali ride report in Advrider.com has far better pictures than mine. Hotel in town is friendly & reasonable with Internet cafe nearby. Andy

I have had it in mind to travel in Turkey for a while; I believe it might be as far as can be travelled in one direction from the UK without the bother of applying for a visa beforehand (by taking a visa at the Turkish border on arrival). |
