Turkey one week tour-tipps please
Hi to All
I'm planning a motocycle tour in Turkey. From and back to Istanbul. One week time in September. Most eastern target Cappadocia. I'm to avoid big cities, highways and mediterran touristic areas but to see nice scenery, meet locals, see the real life and real Turkey. What do you recommend? To spend more time and km on south region (not at the beach) or north more near to Black sea? Is there a big difference between west (Agean region) and east (Cappadocia region)? Out of the higways the local roads paved? (marked white in google maps) Thanks for any advice and tipps. Regards |

Welcome to forum... Keep in mind Turkiye is a large country when compare with most of European countries. One week and back from Istanbul ? Including off-road and side roads/away from main roads? Even not enough for a good Black Sea Coastal Trip... You can rush, do many kilometres daily, feel tired and see more or can concentrate to a region and do that. So we can have two choices: 1) Black Sea Coast 2) Cappadocia, south and western Turkiye 1- Black Sea Coast: Istanbul-Bolu-Bartin-Amasra-Cide-Inebolu-Sinop-Samsun-Ordu-Trabzon-Rize (and many offroad off of the main road need to be talked if you choose this route)(also interesting spots) 2- Cappadocia, South and Western Turkiye : Istanbul-Bolu-Nevsehir-Cappadocia-Aksaray-Konya-Beysehir-Egirdir-Barla-Isparta-Denizli-Pamukkale-Salihli-Balikesir-Edremit-Kucukkuyu-Canakkale-Dardanalles-Istanbul or back to border Interesting spots could be mentioned after you make your decision. One week is not a sufficient time for any of them... Hope this helps... |
Hello Samy,
Thanks for your answer. Your remark fully understood about to much km's /day and miss the country meantime but I don't have more time due to work and family obligations. I would prefer the 2nd route.? I checked the route proposal (and saved it already) and from Istanbul to Canakkale it's 2000km . So aprox daily 300km which seems still fisible. I would try to avoid off road (my bike Transalp ok to that but my tire will be more to tarmac). How can I calculate with the local roads (white marked on google map) - they are tarmac? If you have any proposal to spot it's welcome. On the internet not easy to find out of the main touristic locations but I'm sure there are. A nice village, valley and such spots are always interesting to me. Thanks again. |
most of the roads at number 2 is asphalt. No worries.
About interesting spots better to tell me what you are interested in, what you like. Cappadoccia needs at least 2 days itself.... You can spend one day in Pamukkale, another one in Dardanelles. I don't think you need more spots than the main ones... And for sure you will see plenty of interesting places on the road... |

Hi Samy, Just read this thread and wanted to send you a PM but as I am newly registered I cant. I am looking at travelling to Tbilisi next June and thinking of starting on the west coast of the Black Sea somewhere. I haven't decided where yet, but leaning towards Bucharest. I would then like to travel from the west coast through turkey and into Georgia to Tbilisi. Have you got any info and ideas on this? Think I have about 2/3 weeks to do this in. Any info would be great! Thanks, Raab |
Hi Raab,
Seen your post late... Your post is not clear to me... "I am looking at travelling to Tbilisi next June and thinking of starting on the west coast of the Black Sea somewhere. I haven't decided where yet, but leaning towards Bucharest. I would then like to travel from the west coast through turkey and into Georgia to Tbilisi. Have you got any info and ideas on this?" What is your question here ? Can you please ask spesific questions... What is your start and end point ? You want to take a road from somewhere at Black sea coast and ask me where is appropriate ? :( |
Hi,
i belive my blogspot will help u for the motocycle routes in Turkey. U can find many directions in Turkey. Motocycle routes in Turkey- Turkiye Motosiklet rotaları |
Roughly the first "half" of driving Istanbul to Georgia along the Black Sea coast is worth it if it fits your route. Not superduper amazing, but nice scenery, few toursits (last year around august) and quite fun roads. I didnt "feel" that much Turkish culture though, maybe because I just came from Istanbul (very cultural) and didnt stop more than to enjoy some nice views, take photos etc.
