Turkey Trip - Suggestions...?
Hi All,
This is my first post, please be gentle with me !! :mchappy: OK, I am looking to go from Cambridgeshire through Europe to Istanbul, most probably between mid-August and mid-September. I want to go to two other places. The Nurburgring and Merville in France. Other than that I am completely free - so, any suggestions? I hope to camp most of the time as I need to keep the costs to a minimum. I am thinking of blasting down to Turkey, returning more slowly through Italy - but that is just a thought at the moment! Cheers:cool4: |
Turkey Sept
Hi Just read your message regards Turkey, iam leaving on the 1st of Sept returning 22nd Sept, the reason iam going is my daughters getting married in Olu Deniz on the south coast. Hi,
if you decide to get to Turkey via Romania and Bulgaria, then you might be interested in staying a night with us. We're one day away from Istanbul, in south-east Bulgaria, running a small camping and caravan park. (see Home) Reasonable rates, hot showers, and run by Brits. Cheers, Martin T. Jeffes. Hi,
Don't worry bud, perfectly reasonable question to ask and why the HUBB is here! I went down through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Of the three I liked Bulgaria the most and Romania the least. The whole area is fascinating though, much of it doesn't appear to have changed much since communism. Bucharest is a highlight of Romania. I came back through Serbia, which I wouldn't recommend. The reason I liked Bulgaria was I found the countryside the most unspoilt and the people the freindliest in the region. Leave yourself some time to explore Turkey, it's the best country in the region IMHO. Nice people, good food, interesting history, nice places to stay, excellent weather. Matt :) |

Thanks for all the replies so far - it looks as if I am going to get 3 weeks, starting 19th August.
I Have a "slight" potential fly-in-the-ointment in that I crashed the 1150GS 2 weeks ago on an oil spill! I am waiting for the insurance to sort out the engineers report, and hopefully I can get her repaired before I go - if not, then it looks like it will be next year!!! Still thinking of getting to Turkey, running back through Italy, camping all the way. I'll keep you posted, keep the interesting comments and offers coming, I will be firming things up as soon as I know the score from the Insurance Company... |

After Istanbul, you can see a part of Blacksea,
and after, ride to south to Kapadokya (Cappadocia) and go on to south again to warmer places like Antalya, then to north/northwest,along to Egean sea, there are many places worth to visit, ex: Meryem Ana at Selcuk/Izmir.. enjoy your travel.. |
Turkey trip...don't miss the eastern europe countries!
Hallo Whilec,
Well we just completed our tour from holland to istanbul and apart from istanbul which is a great place to visit I like to suggest to do some of Romania and Bulgaria as well. As from bernd + freitag maps please stay of the red marked main roads in Romania as much as possible since these are rather spoiled by crazy truck drivers, but apart from that it has nice back roads, well suited to your 1150GS and very nice people! In Bulgaria we have travelled through Rodoph mountains all in the south near the greece border which is a great place to ride.:thumbup1: Enjoy and get your bike fixed! Mark - Rotterdam |
......or the Balkan-area..
Rode to Istanbul through the Balkans this summer....
Croatia-Bosnia-Montenegro-Albania-Macedonia-Greece... highly recomended.. Fantastic roads, beautiful mountains, wonderful people.. (don't forget your greencard though) |
