UK to Cape Town in 40 to 50 days????

Hi guys,

I am a novice in Africa travels, I've done quiet a few Europe trips and fairly long distance daily rides however Africa is a different matter!

Is my schedule of 40 to 50 days to do from UK to Cape Town achievable or am I in dream world?

Of course I would like to see a few places on the way but not to the point of spending days in the same spot (With the exception of a forced stay in Egypt/sudan for the obvious scam delays).

Cheers

Jorge

Did you end up going Jorge? If so, how was it? Or did you amend your route to do a shorter section?

I took 5 months using a fairly direct route, this was not rushed but not hanging around either, to do it safely and enjoyably I would allow at least 12-16 weeks.

Hi,

I've been on the road for over 2 1/2 months and I've only got as far as Liberia!
Time is an entirely different concept in Africa.

Have fun and take it easy :Beach:

Cheers,

Gee

If you are spending the money to do such a big trip, then you will not enjoy it in 40-50 days, that's far too quick.

All you will see is road, main road, border crossing, road, the inside of your eyelids, road, main road . . . . . :funmeterno:

If thats all the time you have so be it, do a much shorter trip. 40 days could be easily spent in one or two countries and then you might actually see something of them. :funmeteryes:

To me that sounds like a penance, not an adventure or a holiday.

Also, if you breakdown or get sick for a couple of days, one of which is virtually inevitable under that amount of pressure, then you really won't have a hope.

40 to 50 days trip

Yeah, point taken guys. I'll have to re-think this.

Many thanks

Hey Jorge,

It just depends what you want it can be done in many different ways. If you manage to get all the visa's in advanced I'm sure you can get it done in your time schedule. Consider the west coast as well, there is this Spanish Guy, Estaban, known on the HUBB who did it really fast as well.

Sent him a PM and he will answer your questions I'm sure, at the moment he is in South Africa.

I entered Morocco the end of october last year and now I'm in Namibia.

Cheers Richard

Mad

Personally I would say that is far too quick to enjoy the trip. I did the west coast route in 2012 and that took almost 7 months which at times felt rushed. I guess that time scale also does not including waiting around for visas, which can take weeks to process (my angola visa took 3 weeks to sort out in Ghana).
