uk to gambia and back... tips?
Planning first trip off the black top thru spain, morocco, mauritania, senegal, gambia and back via a ride along the Niger river into mali time/funds permitting.#
Hardly breaking new ground but will be an adventure for me all the same. I just wondered if anyone has any advice re trip route. Things to take in or avoid at all costs. Thanks alan |
Try buying the Aventure Motorcycling Handbook by Chris Scott. Great advice on Africa travel. Also check out the Foreign Office website for areas that are best avoided.

Must agree with that, but don't take the F.O's directive too much to heart - they have to look at the absolute safety of all its citizens. I have spent 10 years travelling to Thailand (normally 3 or 4 times a year) and never suffered a single incident - though I have heard of others that have not been so fortunate - I think it all depends on your own idea of personal security - be safety concious, don't do anything silly, look after your valuables, if the place where stay over night has a safe, use it! (don't forget your receipt).
Enjoy your trip. Oletimer (George) |
Alan,
Have a look at www.2ridetheworld.com - Simon and Lisa Thomas are on that route now, somewhere around Senegal. Also look at http://mccs.co.uk/global - Simon and Suzi Harby also went through many of the countries you list fairly recently. Enjoy yourself.
