UK to The Gambia
Hi folks, we are planing on going to the UK from Tasmania (OZ) later in 2008, Our plan is to buy a bike in the UK and then ride down to The Gambia to visit our sponsor child and her family in Janbanjelly. From there back to the UK Europe and tour around for approximately 12 months.
My main concerns are on the West African leg, I have scoured around through the HUBB and there appears to be some very learned people here. Here in OZ 1000+ kilometre days are not a problem but I am not interested in putting in big days. What I want to know is there reasonable places to eat and sleep on the way down the Coast at <>300-400k intervals. I am also working out there is considerable distances of dirt/sand and beach to cross. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Wilky and Diney. |
London To Gambia
Hi,
There is tarmac all the way from London to Banjul in the Gambia now, except for one 5km stretch. (Plus one optional 110km stretch of easy piste to reach a border crossing that is less hassle than the one on the tarmac route) There are plenty of places to stop for the night given the daily distances that you want to travel, though in the Sahara, there are perhaps longer days as there is very little accomodation between some of the major towns. A journey that you'll enjoy! I last rode this route in January and I am going back in November. Craig |
