Anybody travelled to Ukraine recently ? Planning a trip next year that may cross southern Ukraine en route to Poland but would like to head further north to Kyiv (Chernobyl). Good plan or not ??

Outside the far east of the country, it's as safe as ever in Ukraine.

I crossed last year from Poland to Russia, avoiding Luhansk and Donetsk Regions, and everything was normal. I have not been this year, but I have friends and contacts there.

Stay away from the troubled areas and you'll be fine.

As long as you stay clear of the Luhansk, Donetsk and Mariupol' regions you'll be fine.
We spent some time in Western Ukraine earlier this year without any issues. And friends in Kyiv and in Mykolaiv tell me the situation there is pretty normal, aside from the clear economic impact.

Crossed Ukraine early August from coming from Hungary to Lviv and Kiev and crossed into Russia towards Moscow. No problems.

just be careful to the corrupt cops in the west side before Lviv :oops2:
