Ulan Ude to Ulan Bator
Does anyone know if the border crossing at Kyakhta has full customs and immigration offices? Do I need to enter Mongolia via Naushinka instead. The Reise map I have suggests the actual Kyakhta crossing to be without the relevant customs post.
I know this is a bit late in the day but I'm leaving Ulan Ude in the morning, as long as I find the road leading off the M55 I expect to reach the border tomorrow. Cheers Les K |
Altanbulag-Kyakhta is fine
Naushki to Sukhbaatar is a rail crossing only. I have had to cross there with the bike in a train, but that was in 1994 before they had full facilities at Altanbulag-Kyakhta. They already had the border agreement done in 1994, just not the facilities. I suspect full facilities have been in place at the Altanbulag-Kyakhta crossing for over 15 years now. I have crossed it twice in the last 2 years. You map is well out of date!
Its a normal garden variety border crossing. Asphalt all the way to UB |
Sounds a doddle then!
For some reason Mongolia has seemed the beginning of my journey, how daft is that with nearly 6,000 miles under my belt since 1st June. Now I can slow down and enjoy the experience, with luck the few hotel receipts I've got will be enough.
How nice it actually is to have some feedback, I've only ever done my travels blind. Still refusing to use such modern conveniences as GPS or route finders. Probably why I keep getting lost in all the cities. Thanks guys Les Kbier |
