USA - California to England with no interstates
I think the title pretty much sums it up.
I've been trying to find how to cross the US to ship my bike to England (keep heading East until I'm back in California). I'd like to see Eastern Kentucky again (my family is from the Appalachians and there's dead relatives and moonshine that need to be investigated). Knoxville is also high on my list. Other than that, I'm wide open. I'd like to do this without interstates but it doesn't seem possible. Anyone handy with maps with time to kill? I think I'm screwed until Utah. It'll still be mostly Highway 50 but I'm not seeing much of a choice. Thanks if you deserve it, Dave |
Dave, If you buy a mapping program or get State paper maps, you will options numbering in the hundreds, literally.

You can take US-50 until you get to Utah. At Salina, UT it turns into I-70.
You can go around but it would be a long detour. I have taken US-50 to the East coast and its not that great. I suggest you take US-50 and I-70 to Denver, CO. East of Denver get on US-36. That is a mush nicer road. You can stay on that into Indiana then turn south. |
What about the TransAm Trail for part of the way?
