Vancouver - Alaska - then Central and South America

Hello all!

I'm a Spanish guy who started a RTW trip in May 2013. I went through Turkey, Georgia, Central Asia, Russia, loop into Mongolia, back to Russia and then to Japan via Sakhalin. After that, I sent my bike to Vancouver as my plan was to continue riding in America.

But! ... My mother had some health problems in autumn so I left my bike in Vancouver and came back to Spain for the winter. Things are now better and it seems I am ready to fly to Vancouver and continue my trip in early June.

So... I have no fixed plan, I can spend around 6-8 months in North/South America and I would really appreciate some suggestions on where to go and specially when. I don't want to end up riding in north american heat waves, rain seasons in Central Amierca and crossing the Andes under the snow...

Someone said June it is a good time to go to Alaska, so I know the first part of my trip will be riding north to Alaska. Also, I think I may want to go Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia after Central America. I also think I want to finish my trip in Argentina and ship the bike to somewhere else from there, since I have some friends there.

But anything in between ... I don't really know where to go. Specially in North America.

I know this is a blurry-open-newbiesque question but I'm not trying to leave all the work to you. I'm seeking for general advice and inspiration (specially for the timing) and after I pick up a few ideas and names I can do the research myself.

Thanks a lot!!!

PS. I have some other more precise questions that I will post separately ;)

Mr. Hicks, may I suggest you get my book! :innocent:

I rode from Alaska down to Panama, taking 6 months. Early June is a great time to be heading north from Vancouver to Alaska. Spend around a month to 6 weeks to get up, see around and back down to the USA.

Then zig zag down the western third of the USA, getting to Mexico in November. Make it to Panama for Christmas and ship home from there.

Central America will be warm and it will rain from October to December but usually only in the afternoon and will be warm rain!

Most people head south from Alaska from June to Aug, hit Central America sept - nov. If you want to get a boat from Panama to Colombia they end in November ( I think). And I know most people go all the way to Argentina in 6 months from Canada but I would suggest you slow down, see the sights and take your time.

Thanks a lot Lonesome George :)

I will take your advice into account and will try to travel slow.

Here is my rough plan for the first 3-4 months: http://goo.gl/maps/RrBOf

I'm not sure if I will be able to do all that, because I'm Spanish and I understand that my 90 day tourist permit for the USA starts counting as soon as I enter Alaska...

Regards!
