Whats the deal w/ ferries from La Paz to Mainland?
Im planning on going down baja then crossing over to mainland to hit Copper Canyon, and was planning on just taking a ferry across. My friend tried to tell me those ferries cost like $80 american, I said there is no way it could be that high cause the locals could never afford it.
So how much are they, and any relevant info? -R |
About $60 from memory, La Paz to Los Mochis. You can sleep out on the deck as they leave the lights on all night in the 'lounge'.

Baja ferries
For all the current info just log on at www.bajaferries.com
This past January I paid 2360 Pesos for a car and two people for the transit from Pichilingue to Topolobampo A bike is a LOT cheaper. $80 for one person sounds about right ,plus cost for bike. You can't expect them to do it for nothing , and it beats rowing across. The Mexicans who can afford to travel can afford it and there are enough of those. The offfice for this ferry company is located in La Paz just around the corner from the Mc Donalds restauranton corner of Cinco de Febrereo and Catolica ( extension of Calzado Avila the main newer route into the city can't miss it)No need for reservations, just show up , buy ticket for next sailing. |
