Where in France ?
 

Hi folks :confused1:
Done the French and Swiss Alps a few times :mchappy: but fancy a week elsewhere in France ,looking for good biking roads and scenery. Any ideas ?

Depends on your idea of good biking roads... Auvergne and Massif Central are 2 areas.

I found the Spanish side of the Pyrenees to be great. One advantage was you could adjust ambient temperature by riding up or downhill :)

Yes, the Spanish side of the Pyrenees are terrific for on or offroad riding, but avoiding the crowded roads of Andorra is advised!

Massif Central, Pyrennees or even some of the West coast out Biscarosse way is quite nice. Most of Northern France is a bit flat and boring, but the middle to south are great.

Cahors to Rodez is a great road, and that whole area is filled with them really. Vichy is a nice town, and the Puy du Dome is a bit of a tourist attraction.

Off down to france in back end of may, hopefully time permitting i'll be able to fit in a tootle around the pyrennes area, is andorra that busy?, i'm going to be staying in or around perpingan, does anyone know of biker freindly places to stay there?

I second the Auvergne and Massif Central as nice biking areas, but mind your season: we got wazzed-on from up high when we went one early autumn. That and the fact some psycho sabotaged the brakes on my CBR on the way home towards Orleans....

Apart from that it was a great trip!!

If you are short on time and don't mind the risk of rain, then Brittany Normandie are charming. With more time, better weather and insane roads, the Ardeche is supposed to be faaaaaaantastique!!

Do you know how long it would take to get to any of those places from here?!?

Do the cheese trail whilst in the Ardeche. Plus the volcanoes.

Further south on the way to the Gorge du Tarn there's the wolf park.

Then Gorge Jonte with the wild vultures.

Then east through the Gorge du Tarn to the Ardeche and canoeing paradise.
