Where to stay the first night
 

Hi all.

Getting off the ferry either at Ceuta or Tanger in Morocco, where would be a good place to stay for the first night? Camping or cheap hotel. Any recommendations?

Having done my research but not having my laptop with me coz I done rattled it to death :(

Hotels are Just as Cheap as Camping and your bike will be more secure, just make sure you use a water filter when drinkning the local water, in fact buy an inline filter for your camelbak and use it all the time. :innocent:

Make sure your bike is safe! Your first night out...thats all you will be thinking about.
Camping would be a good start as I would imagine it is quite easy to get into the habit of staying in cheap hotels which will always then attract you to the towns and cities? Plus with camping you straight away will see whats missing or what you dont need.
Besides if you arrive in the morning who knows where you will be in the evening.
I arrive in spain on the 6th nov. I assume 4 days to morocco. So the 11th looks good to arrive in morocco. I have to meet my girlfriend on the 16th in fez. then she goes from marrakesh on the 23rd. Then down,down,down through africa.
I hope we can cross parths somewhere in morocco!

Ugh...too bad about your laptop. Would have loved a name of a hotel or campsite. Guess I will figure it out when I get there. If you manage to think of a name either in Tanger or Ceuta, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oh and you can be sure I'll be taking precautions about the water. I've got this brine/catalyst pen purifier that works pretty well.

Nope,I haven't left yet. Leaving sunday and will propably be in Morocco around the 7'th or 8'th. This is depending whether or not I will be able to book ferry passage from southern France, or if I will have to drive through Spain. In which case, my arrival may be belated a little. But the answer is blowing in the wind.

And yeah, I'm sure we'll hook up once in Morrocco. You have my mail adress and I have yours.

Hotels are not too difficult to locate, good to have French if you want to negotiate a discount.
There is camping and hotels at Larache, camping is located on the south side of town. Larache is a laid back place.
If you have more time you will find hotels at Safi, Hotel Assif, N32 17.717 W9 14.020 has an underground car park.

Give us an idea what time you will be arriving and where you heading to in Morocco, using the motorway from Tangier you can get a fair way south.

Ceuta is still Spain and there are tons of hotels/hostels in the town. Alternatively go through the border into Morocco a few miles south at Fnediq and stay in the Ibis Hotel which costs about £25 per night.

I prefer landing at Tanger and getting through the boring northern part of Morocco by motorway. Tanger also has an Ibis Hotel, take the dual carriageway out of town, signposted Rabat and it's about 8 miles down the road. If you can make a bit further from Tanger, jump on the motorway for a few miles and try Asilah. Real calm town with beautiful whitewashed and arty medina.

All hotels will offer secure parking or a parking guardian. I normally give them 5 or 10 dirham for looking after the bike for the night.

Town water is drinkable all over Morocco.

The problem is I don't know exactly when I will arrive. But if things go like I have losely planned (taking the ferry from Séte), I will arrive in Tangier about 0700 in the morning. If I don't get on a ferry, I will be driving through Spain, which makes my time of arrival difficult to estimate. But no doubt I will do everything I can, not to arrive late at night.

The fuzzy schedule was why I wanted some place to shoot for. Thanks for the help.

Just having a name (Ibis) will propably prove helpfull. As I said to Steve, it's good to have something to shoot for so I don't stand in the middle of Tangier or Ceuta, not knowing which way is up. :)

£25 sounds pretty close to european prices. But, if as you point out that the bike will be looked after, I guess it's worth it in the long run. At least untill I find my "traveling legs", so to speak.

You can drink the water in France too but I still get the Squitz when I drink it, I ride a Motorbike that's as Dangerous as I like to be so I will filter the water as there are toxins hormones (lots of female ones due to the pill passing through ALL those women and then being recycled) bacteria virus's Teflon and lots of heavy metals in there as well for good measure.

Search the web for trace amounts of chemicals in the British water supply, you will be amazed at what you find and we HAVE the best water treatment in the WORLD, the governmet has to publish it's finding by law but no-one bothers to read them it's scary reading.

In Canada they have stopped putting Fluoride in the water now, and Coca-Cola have just been sued as their PURE drinking water comes from UK taps, in Thailand they reuse the empty water bottles by filling them from taps as well (there are two different types of seal on the bottles), seems you can't trust bottled water either.

£25 is still cheap for an Ibis - last time I stayed in one in France it was about 60+ Euros for a double room (a single is not likely to cost much less because they can always let it as a double/twin).

You could look up the latest distribution of Accor hotels (they own Ibis and many more) and their prices on the web.

Formular One hotels are like 30 euros a night easy to find via your GPS also you will find them in most business parks, and in and around major cities Paris has 9 of them within 20 miles. You have to share a toilet and Shower room, but there are normally 4 to each floor, and ask for a ground floor room so you can be near your vechicle.

The rooms normally have a double bed a bunk bed, sink and TV and you can have as many people in there with you as you want (The Algerians love it there). Downstairs there's normally food/drink machines and a microwave, so you can heat up last nights pizza for breakfast.

I use them every 3 days or so, nice to get cleaned up and way better than using nappy wipes, also good for cleaning clothes making repairs to Motorcycles, and bringing random women back to that's when the top bunk bed comes in handy for swinging from Monkey Style.
