Who's going to Ushuaia this year?
 

I've been in South America for ages now but still yet to visit Ushuaia / Tierra del fuego. Just wondering who's heading that way this year in December or January?

Barring no unforseen circumstances my girlfriend and I will be flying in to BA with our F650GSs, heading to the HU meetup in Viedma on the 10th (haven't registered yet). Then heading south to Ushuaia before making our way back home (Boston, MA, USA).

I'm having the experts give our bikes a thorough once-over this weekend (praying it's not expensive) since we won't ride many miles or make many mods between now and then.

If I remember correctly there are a few others who posted about heading south from the US and are probably en-route right now.

I'm still working my way up Africa (in Togo now), but once I hit Spain I'll be heading for South America and hope to be in Ush. by sometime around Dec/Jan. I'd love to make the Meet, but I think that might be optimistic.

Either way- hope to catch some folks there!

The meeting at Viedma/AR would be a nice sugestion. There, for sure, you may find some people going to ushuaia. And, once in Ushuaia, try Camping Pista de Los Andinos....

Yes, heading that way, in Mexico now, but don't expect to be in Argentina until Feb/March.

We are arriving BA on the 8th December (not sure we can get the bikes out of Customs that day as it is a Public Holiday), going to the meet in Viedma then to Ushuaia for Christmas.
It will be great to meet up with you all

Was in Mexico but had to shoot up to Texas to sort out a shock, then back to Mexico for a month then heading down to U fairly quickly then hanging in South A for a while

Hey Pocket head,

Yeah ive just arrived in santiago, today. Hoping to buy a eurmot gxt200 or something like that while im here and then ride south through torres del plaine and down to Ushuia.

If you have any advice on buying a bike here then that would be great. Im not sure if my 200cc would be too slow, but then again whats the point in racing through a country???

Im hoping to get a chile mobile no soon. PM me if you would like to meet up or if you have any advice?

a 200cc bike will be fine if you're patient, I've done some crazy trips on 200's. Actually I just bought a DR200SE (I missed the fuel mileage!) and it arrives on Monday I hope, so it would be great to ride with someone at the same pace. How long until you start heading South?

Also my advise to buying in Chile would be to purchase a new bike, when I purchased second-hand there I had all sorts of problems getting the paperwork. A quick search of chileautos.cl brought up this !

Are you planning to visit Northern Argentina & Bolivia at all?

Erm in a nutshell thats exactly what im looking to do. Ride south to the tip, then back up through argentina. Would like to do BA and Iquaza falls. Then up through the north and into Bolivia. from here well being as its so cheap and loads of stuff to see and do. after this my trip will take my into peru. I have upto 6months but if im doing well for time and money i could go further north, as id love to do Ecuador and Columbia.

I have been thinking new simply becasue of the problems with paper work which can hold things up. Id either buy something like the one youve suggested or at least from a dealer with low km's.

Once i have the bike, paper work and a pannier rack fitted then id be good to go. Personality wise im real easy to get on with, enjoy a good laugh. Always up for an adventure and my general theory is you only live once.

Are you in Santiago or somewhere else in Chile??

I'm in Sucre, Bolivia, about 5 days ride from Santiago. Once you have your bike let me know when you are planning to leave, I will try to work with those dates :thumbup1:

Oh one word of advice, how big is the tank on that bike? If you're having pannier racks made then it might be worth removing the footpegs and replacing them with something to carry fuel as well. On my former XL200 I was forever worried about running out of fuel... that had an 8.5l tank...

sounds good. yeah there is a guy and his wife here in my hostel with a 650 honda dominator and even he is worried about the size of his tank! im going on monday to get a RUT and then sort the bike. I know that if its just waiting for the padron i can get this at any registro civil in Chile (i believe anyway) hoping to get a bit of help from the santiago community as well.
