Ypres
Hi all off to Ypres for rememberance sunday parade in november wondered if there are some must see sights whilst in the area particulary intrested in seeing some of the trenches and battle filds etc

Tyne cot and the museum at passendale are obvious choices.
I visited them and the French memorial at Kemmel hill last month, bit sobering. Sadly I had to cut my visit short as I had a mechanical problem beginning to show itself. |
I agree, Tyne Cott is an absolutely awesome place to visit. That is
properly old school 'awesome,' not the one that stupid blondes say. The Old Cloth Hall. The crater from the battle of Messines at Wijtschaete ('White sheet' if you are a Brit squaddie.) Incredibly sobering reminder of how technology changed war, while war stood still. Of course, the Menin gate, every evening to remember all of those who are all too often forgotten about. On and around the area of 'Hill 60' are some very poignant cemetaries too. I can't remember the exact location, but a quick google will point you in the right direction. Joel |
