Adventure tour of the Philippines.....

I've looked any can't see many references in this forum to Philippines so I'm wondering why?
First I thought it was due to the many, many islands which go to make this archipelago, but then there are quite a few posts about Indonesia which is also a collection of countless islands.
I plan to tour most of this beautiful country in the next few years, but I'll start with a thorough investigation of my own island home PALAWAN.
My question to the forum is, 'Has anybody else tried to discover here? If so, where did they go. What route did they take? Where to avoid (apart from most of the South West - due to problems with Muslim extremists)?
My rough idea would be 6 months around Palawan, then ferry to Manila and head north......
Thanks in advance.

I actually planned to bring my bike over from malaysian Borneo, ferry from Sandakan to Zamboanga but for different reasons I never did. I might do it in the future though as I have a bike standing in Thailand (with thai plates)

Phillipines sure seems like a place for a great motorbike adventure. But there are something to think about too, such as the terror and kidnapping of westerners in Mindanao. When I did my research about travelling in the Philippines most answers I got from locals was, dangerous! Dont do it! Impossible! and so on. But that might be more prejudice than actual knowledge. I also dont know about ferries between all the islands of Philippines?

Indonesia is a place one more or less have to go through on the main Europe to Australia overland route (or opposite) so it isnt strange that Indo comes up more often that Philippines.

Please give us some trip reports and share some experiences from travelling The Philippines on a bike if possible. I would love to do it on a later occasion.

The issue you will have is getting your bike actually into the Philippines if that's what you plan to do. If you buy locally, then that's another story.

I know one guy that has traveled all over the Philippines on his bike, spent 2-3 years. You will need to go back to his Facebook posts of 2 years ago.

There might be a problem getting the bike from Borneo to Mindanao but its been done before and hopefully it is still possible. A spanish rider named Miguel Silvestre took his huge BMW 1200 GSA on a ferry from Sandakan to Zamboanga. He filmed much of ot and its all on youtube. He did however fly it out from the Philippines. I would have had to go back the same way as I came.
As far as I know there isnt much paperwork involved so it seems pretty straightforward if only one could get the bike from Sandakan to Zamboanga. I own a bike in Thailand and it would have been great to be able to do it that way.

I'll buy the bike locally. Although I have heard some horror stories of people trying to get their vehicles into Philippines due to some corrupt customs guys demanding 'considerations' to advance the documentation.
