Any recommended motorcycle rentals in Indonesi?
 

Hey everyone,
My plan is to fly to Jakarta with two friends, and we will have about three weeks to ride around before returning the bikes. I'm looking for recommendations for rental outfitters, ideally in Jakarta, which would allow us to ride both South Sumatra as well as Java. So far, I'm finding some outfitters based out of Yogyakarta, which would be a fine consolation prize, but does probably limit our ability to get to Sumatra.
Thoughts?

You'll find a bike to rent on just about every other corner and it shouldn't cost you much more than about $5 US per day for a Honda Hawk. 200cc, depending on your negotiation skills!!! I never use hire companies, I always go local, just ask, it wont lake you long at all! Make sure the bike comes with insurance and registration papers and a receipt and contact details for the rental term, even if it's hand written. May I also suggest your first stop be a mechanic, service the bike and set it up for your requirements, check everything and if need be replace worn parts, it's not expensive and it's damn good karma. Countless hires and I've never had a problem.

That's a great tip, and in fact what I did in Ubud near Ijen several years ago... but as I recall, these were fellas hanging out near hotels and stuff. I stayed in Jakarta for about a month a couple years ago, and thinking back, I am not sure where I would start in terms of chatting up a guy about three bikes. Chatting with ojek drivers maybe?
