Flores >> W. Tenggara >> Lombok by ferry, Possible?
Hi all! I recently bought a bike in Makassar and am trying to put together an itinerary and am a bit confused about the info I am getting. My plan was to ferry it over to Flores and then island hop my way to Bali crossing W. Tengarra and Lombok.
But on the Pelni website it only shows one ferry making these trips and its called the "tilongkabila", an indonesian friend of mine looked into it and told me that that Ferry doesnt take vehicles. Unfortunately that is also the same ferry that goes from Makassar to Flores. So it seems this whole idea of mine to get from Sulawesi to Flores and then to Bali with the bike might be in peril. Am I missing something here? Are there ferries that run that are NOT on the Pelni site or is that site have all the ferries? And is there a way to know for sure if a ferry takes vehicles? Thanks in advance for your help! |
Yes you can do as you planned. Pelni is not the main transporter when it comes to vehicle ferries in Indonesia, the main transporter is ASDP.
From Bira on Sulawesi southern tip you can take a ferry over to Labuan Bajo on the west side of Flores. It takes 30-35 hours and only run once pr week. From Labuan Bajo on Flores to Sape on Sumbawa - sailings twice pr day 6-7 hours crossings. From Sumbawas northwest side to Lomboks eastern side Poto Tano to Pringgabaya, crossings approx 3 hours, many sailings pr day. And Lombok to Bali 3-4 hours crossing and many sailings pr day. |
Your the man Snakeboy! Thank you!
I had no idea about ASDP (just arrived in Indonesia so still learning the tricks). For future people reading this post ASDP also has a great website I found that even has an english option: https://www.indonesiaferry.co.id Seems there is indeed a ferry that leaves Bari every Sunday. Ill be on it! |
Don't stress mate, just rock up to the port and say the location you want to be. Everyone will help. We've just gone from Timor to Java hitting all the islands on the way, Snakeyboy mentioned them too.
Might have to wait till the next day. The size of your engine determines price. Send me a PM if you need info. If you're in Flores now, look up Kota beach near Paga, Blasious home stay, gentleman. I tried putting it on google maps and maps.me. |
