Indonesia - more than 60 days - how?
 

Hello I have been inspired by few stories I have seen, and modified my plans which were to travel with 4x4 (I have finally realized that it is just too expensive, and thus it will never happen) to using a motorbike (I need to get a license and the bike). So I am planning (I love planning) a loooong trip (plenty of time to plan now, anyway) from AUS to EU and beyond.

I have always ignored Indonesia (and all of the SEA - as the plan was to go directly to Vladivostok, perhaps via Korea), but now I have included it in my plans, and I have realized that there is so much to see, and 60 days will definitely not be enough.

Does anybody has any ideas as how to get to stay there longer then 60 days? I have seen some mention that the 60 day visa can be extended on behalf of some Indonesian citizen inviting me, but that has been few years back, so I am not sure if (and how) that works.

It could have changed - but when I rode through Indonesia in 2015 I applied for a tourist visa of 60 days at the indo consulate in Penang-Malaysia. That visa could be extended by another 30 days x 4 times, so altogether 6 months. I was possibly a bit lucky with the first extension as one usually only got one extension of 30 days. I did need a indonesian national to be my sponsor/guarantee though.

If thats not possible anymore I guess you could always find a cheap airfare to a neighbor country and just re-enter Indonesia asap.

Try to contact the guys on Indonesia overland forum on Facebook, they should be up to date with the latest info about the current visa situation there.

B211 Business Visa. Details are: The initial visa validity is 60 days. You can then extend the visa 4 x for 30 days each time, so the maximum visa validity is 180 days (these days include the day you land and leave.)

I believe the cost is around $400 USD and you will need a sponsor (which I have had for the past 12+ months living here). My sponsor may be able to help you as well. She is local to Bali and works closely with an Immigration Specialist. I ended up buying a house (99 year lease, actually) and getting a permanent visa here on Bali.
