Laos Cambodia border: Carnet not accepted anymore
Just tried to cross the border from Laos to Cambodia with our Landcruiser.
They didn't let us in, first I have to go from Laos by bus to PhnomPhen en apply for a Temporary Import permision. With that document I have to show up at the border again. The custom guy had since 2 months orders not to accept the carnet de passage anymore, only the TIP from central office in PP. It was n"t possible to turn him over, we argued a lot but no result. We are now back in Pakse to overlook our options. There is going a direkt bus to PhnomPhen. Or better try to enter Thailand? |
bummer :(
was it the Cambodian border who didn't let you in? or was it the Laos customs which didn't let you even out? because I heard that a lot that they don't let you out of Laos at this border. I would try at another day, like Sunday. then there will be a another guy who may not know the rule and just let you pass. I don't think you will get into Thailand at Pakse, seems to be a big border crossing. |

We did not have carnets, but we did have the original registration cards. We were there only a month after you. I'm glad we went that way, and not Laos to Cambodia! cheers |
Cambodia > Laos 2019 Experience
Hello
Just thought I would add my recent experience of this border. It went very smoothly considering I didn't have a temporary permit for Cambodia https://www.globaltimoto.com/asia/ca...ehicle-permit/ And the Laos side accepted a Carnet no issues at all: https://www.globaltimoto.com/asia/la...et-de-passage/ |

Ah, that’s something I forgot to mention in my post.
The Cambodian customs officer asked me if I would come back to Cambodia, I said yes. He then asked if I would return through this same border control, again I responded with a yes. He then asked me several times throughout our conversation when I would return, to which I responded 6-8 weeks. As he was writing out my zero day TIP he said that he would make another one for me when I return. I’m guessing he is way more interested in getting the $10 again than turning me away for not having the permit from the PP office. My assessment of the situation is that most of these guys will use the blocker to build up a story against giving permission, but are just judging whether you will go for a “surcharge” and how much for. If I didn’t give them the notion I’d go for it then they wouldn’t give me the option. |
I plan to cross the border from Cambodia to Laos and after a few days in Laos go back to Cambodia again in the end of this year. The motorcycle will be a Cambodian BMW 650 rental bike. I hope the border crossing´s will be without problem. :-)

Hey Hadj
Nice bike. I'm currently investigating this crossing, as they are supposed to have changed the rules on the Cambodia side, to make it easier for foreigners to enter. Are you already in Cambodia ? Did they give you any documentation ? Thanks Tim |
Hey Folks,
do you have any new information regarding this bordercrossing? We are a group of three and will probably cross this border around december this year. We will have bikes with a german license plate. I'm very happy for any info you can give me :thumbup1: Best regards Louis |

Laos to Cambodia - problems for a long time. But it seems it might be a change over there lately. Take a look in this facebook-group and see how it has been described lately on a couple of occasiones. And note that there is a document from the Cambodian Tourist Dept that can be great to have... https://www.facebook.com/groups/4191...147/?ref=share |
Hey Snakeboy,
thank you for your help! I will check the group out and take a look what i can find there :) Have a nice weekend |
