Motorcycle rental in Phnom Penh

My wife and I are looking to rent two motorcycles (not Forzas, scooters or automatics) roughly Nov 1 - 19 2022. Anyone have a shop that they trust and recommend? I am finding a handful on Google Maps, but would love to hear from folks who have used one recently. Thanks!

Hi Adam. I used Victory MotorBike when I was there in February this year. I rented a Honda Baja 250 for about 3 weeks. The rates were reasonable and the shop centrally located. The owner (Johnny) was an affable bloke. They wanted a hefty deposit (as I didn't want to give up my passport); but zero quibbles on return of the bike. I would definitely use them again.

That's good to hear. Did you book in advance with them? We've been exchanging emails with them for a few days and it's been incredibly frustrating: in every single email I am asking the same questions and never getting any of them answered. The questions, maybe some of which you can answer:
1. Which bikes are available for our dates (can't even get a straight answer on that!)
2. Prices per week for available bikes
3. Do the available bikes come with a luggage rack of any kind, so we can strap our backpacks to them?
4. We are US citizens. Do we need any special license to drive bikes larger than 150cc? If so, any insights on how to obtain that?

Thanks!

Hi Adam. Difficult to answer, but:

1. Many bikes available. I initially wanted a CRF250, but when I turned up, they had none left. I went with the Baja, but they had everything from scoots to "big" bikes. I would persist in contacting them (try FB messenger. Messenger seems to elicit a better response than email in Cambodia), in order to reserve what you want.
2. Prices vary widely according to bike and duration of rental. I ended up paying around US$16 per day for the Baja for about 23 days of rental. The owner is open to reasonable negotiation. I did my trip when Covid was still a thing and perhaps prices were more negotiable then than now??
3. The bike I rented had a top rack which I strapped my bag to.
4. I think maybe technically you need a Cambodian licence; but I only had my (UK) national licence and an IDP. Nobody ever even asked for those.

Sounds good. So far, I have gotten clear and quick responses from "Best Motorbike Cambodia" and "Cambodia Motorbike Rental". The latter is quoting me for a monthlong rental: "honda CB 750 cc is $250, honda CB 125ccc & Honda FTR is $150, honda Baja is $200"
So a really good deal in comparison! I think I will pursue this lead further for now.

Yeah, I have never really needed a license in any country, but my wife read somewhere that foreigners are supposed to have a Cambodian license for >150cc. I will check with this other rental company too, to see their thoughts.

driving licence

You used to need a Cambodian driving licence, but thats skipped since 2017. If you have an internationale driving licence you are good, and can get insurance on it. I used to rent cars from LYNA-garage on 432 street in Phnom Penh, and they arranged me a cam-licence (for the car), had to renew It every year, but in 2017 they said, nonono, you dont need anymore, your IDL is okay. I suppose for motos its the same !! Even a lot of cops dont know their own rules, they just want to get bribed, useally 5 US !!! ??
