Myanmar borders re-opened?
The text regarding land borders being closed to foreigners is now gone from this page.
Could the SE Asia overland route finally be a thing again? |
They've added THREE airports:
and TWO land borders:
|
Note pt 8:
Currently, passengers with eVisa are only permitted to enter via following ports: 1. Yangon International Airport 2. Mandalay International Airport 3. Nay Pyi Taw International Airport 4. Myawaddy Land Border Checkpoint 5. Kawthaung Land Border Checkpoint The two land borders mentioned here are both between Myanmar and Thailand. (And #5 is actually a seacrossing from the thai town of Ranong) Which means there are no land borders open for foreigners between India and Myanmar. Which again means no overland travels are possible for the moment. We can only hope that India - Myanmar land borders opens up soon too so that overlanding through SE-Asia will be possible. In the meantime I wouldnt hold my breath…. |
So does this allow a side trip into Myanmar while exploring Thailand

4. Myawaddy Land Border Checkpoint to 5. Kawthaung Land Border Checkpoint or vice versa? You mentioned that Kawthaung is actually a sea-crossing between Myanmar and Thailand. Does it have a RORO vehicle ferry that would accomodate a BMW R 1250 GSA? Thanks. |

There are afaik only socalled longtail boats that are taking travellers between Ranong and Kawthaung, like this: https://youtu.be/C-qLXzQn5F8 If its possible to get a GSA into and out from one of those longtail boats I will not comment upon…. |
