Share container Timor L’Este — Darwin in Mar/Apr 2019
Dear all,
I’m considering options to ship my German-registered motorcycle from South-East Asia to Australia this spring. Timor Leste would be preferred since I could do whole Indonesia with the bike. Currently I am in Malaysia. According to this very informative report, shipping would be around 3000 USD per container. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...or-leste-94360 Most shipping companies want you to buy the whole container, which is even preferable as it will be sealed and you don’t need to worry building a box or someone taking stuff from your bike etc. I know it’s easiest to fly the bike from KL, Malaysia (quoted around 1500 USD). If I would find one, if not two others to share a container with, the price would be the same or less (1500 USD per bike for two, 1000 USD per bike for three bikes — roughly), plus there will be more to see and more adventures on the way to East Timor. Let me know! Michael |
Container from Timor leste
Hi Michael
We got quotes a couple of years ago to ship from Dili to Darwin and also from Surabaya to Perth Fremantle in Australia. We need a Hicube container so had to have a 40 foot container as no-one deals with 20 foot HiCube in Indonesia. For us it worked out cheaper to take a car ferry back from Labuan Bajo in Flores to Surabaya and ship from Surabaya than to ship from Dili to Darwin. I don’t know what quarantine is like for motor bikes in Australia, but we heard some awful stories about the time and cost of getting a car through quarantine in Dili, whereas in Perth they are so busy they are keen to get the car through and out. This was certainly our experience, we spent 2 weeks in Surabaya cleaning the car and it’s got though Quarantine in 20 minutes. Customs held it to X-Ray it which made a 10 day wait in Perth, but I don’t remember having to pay for that. Indonesia is stunning, we really enjoyed driving there and spent about 5 months there before going to Australia. If you are getting your visa, Penang in Malaysia is a good place as they issued 60 day visas without an Indonesian sponsor. Hope you get to see Indonesia it’s fabulous. Suede |
