Suggestions for N. Thailand Route

Hey all,

I'm traveling for three weeks in Thailand in Dec and looking for suggestions on a route and places to see/stay. We're doing two weeks by moto in the north and a week in the touristy south (a compromise with my traveling companions). Also, how are my riding time estimates that I pulled off google? Here is what I have planned so far:

12/17 Fly to Chiang Mai

12/18 Riding… Chiang Mai to Pai 3hrs

12/19 Pai (possibly PM ride to Ban Rakthai)

12/20 Riding… Pai to Ban Rakthai 3hrs

12/21 Riding… Ban Rakthai to Lamphun 7hrs

12/22 Riding… Lamphun to Nan 4hrs

12/23 Nan

12/24 Riding... Nan to Phayo Lake 3hrs

12/25 Phayo Lake

12/26 Riding… Phayo Lake to Chiang Rai 1:30 hrs

12/27 Riding... Chiang Rai to Doi Ang Khang 3hrs

12/28 Riding… Doi Ang Khang to Chaing Mai 2:30 hrs

Turn off at Soppong and do the caves at Tham Lot :thumbup1:
Great hut accommodation at Cave Lodge (walking distance)
I love Thailand, especially up north.
Enjoy bier

Are those caves better than the ones in Wat Tham Chiang Dao?

There are so many darn temples and caves that I must admit to not knowing anything about which ones are must-see and which are must-skip.

Hi
Have a look at my ride report from last Dec\Jan. I rode Northern Thailand and it might give you some more ideas. It was great you will love it
The link should be in the signature block, but i don't know if it will show answering from tapatalk

I also put places to stay under the http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...southern-asia/ section

Great report, Lonerider. Thanks for the gps coordinates. We will integrate a few of those spots into our trip.

It seems like your riding times are about 20% longer than what google maps seems to suggest. Could you estimate your average speed when riding? I'm wondering if we could go a bit faster with 400-600cc bikes.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

I only pottered about, never really went above 50mph (80kmh) and most of the time it was less than that. I wanted to see the country not blast past it all. I also stopped on routes for drinks, a smoke, take photos etc.
I used this for my mapping Free worldwide Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap
