Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos
I would like to do a tour Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand. Visa should not be a problem, but what about the scooter (300cc)? It is registered and insured in my name in Thailand.
And what is the best time of year for a trip like this?

If you have a scooter registered in your name in Thailand then Laos and Cambodia should not be an issue
For Vietnam you may need to organise a tour guide to get your own bike into the country. I am not sure about the price.
Weather wise, Thailand is in the cold season especially in the North, NE and Central areas, Northern Laos should be the same, so this would be the better time to ride.
The last hot season was a scorcher, and it starts March time ish.
I am not sure about further south

Hi Wayne: What do you mean by a "tourguide"?

You will need permits from a government approved travel agent and a guide for your tour. All this cost is on you.
I am not sure on how you go about sorting it all out
Have a look at this site, in particular this page. It's an old thread but some of the operators may still work

If you get in my area stop off for a brew

So all the time travelling with an expensive watch dog.
So better buy/rent something in Vietnam.

As Lonerider have mentioned already - if you have a thai plated bike registrated in your name Laos and Cambodia shouldnt be any problem. But a trip to your local traffic station (Land transport office) and get a translation of the bike documents. Also get several copies of all important documents before you go, including your pasport detail side.
Be aware of what bordercrossings you intend to use upon crossing into Laos and Cambodia. Some of these wont let you in at all, some are superchaotic, some requires you to go through an agency and pay a good bit of money etc etc. A good research is definetively advised!
Vietnam is no point doing on a thai plated bike. You will need a very expensive guide and permits. So you are much better of renting or buying a bike there. Tigit and Style are two well known and well reputated rental agencies in Vietnam. Tigit have also made lots of great and informative Youtube videos about travelling with a motorbike in Vietnam.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
