Vietnam in a right hand drive / RHD ?
Hi all, does anyone know if it's ok to drive a right hand drive in Vietnam ? We've just heard from someone who said it's not allowed but we hadn't heard of this being an issue before?! Thanks!!

During our times in Vietnam, I am sure we never seen a RHD vehicle.

Until very recently it was almost impossible to drive your own vehicle in Vietnam regardless of drive side. Couple of recent posts (perhaps on Overlandshere facebook) claim that LHD can now be driven in, but there is debate that may only apply after a lot of paperwork and in special circumstances. RHD is said to be still banned even under the most optimistic interpretation of the regulations.
There are a few other countries where total bans on RHD also apply. Have a look at http://overlandingassociation.org/lhd-rhd/ and click on the country of interest. What i there regarding vietnam won't give you much joy. Those wanting to drive into China from the south have to go via the countries adjoining Vietnam. |
Vietnam is a LHD country by the usual definition which refers to the vehicle steering wheel which means they drive on the right side of the road.

. .Eh ! ? Every one drive on the right. So vehicles are left hand drive When taking LHD or RHD, the meaning is where is the steering wheel when you are sitting in the car looking forward. For Veitnam, China and all them places, (except Hong Kong) all vehicles will be LHD vette |
