I can recommend some great rural places in the Rif mountains. Don't be scared by people trying to sell marihuana. It's not so bad as you may think:

Gite Talassemtane. Situated in the mountains, one hour east of Chefchaouen. Only reachable by piste. Comfortable. 350 DH per person half board, Gite Talassemtane | Decouvrez les montagnes de RIF

Gite Jnanate. In a village near Cala Iris, one hour west from al Hoceima. Simple place, great service. 250 DH per person half board, gitejnanate-ed-gmail.com

Chez Rachid. Bed and Breakfast in Tlatla Ketama. A bit expensive for what you get. But I think you can haggle down the price. 370 DH per person half board, rachidelazouzi-ed-hotmail.com

In Merzouga, i'd suggest Ksar Sarnia / Chez Françoise. It is right beside Ksar Bicha if I remember.
Facing the dunes, w/ pool, great food and independent "cabins"... I stayed there 3 days.

And this dude is a great host. ;-)

Casa Linda in Chefchaoun
 

40e for a big room. Outside town, quiet, close enough to both old city and hiking. Good breakfast, great dinners (though slow - go to town if you're in a hurry). Friendly staff and off-street, inside the garden, parking for bikes. The morning guy has a good source of local olive if you're so inclined.

House on Hill - Benslimane
 

Really liked this AirBnb place in the hills southeast of Benslimane. No a/c that I remember, so it could be a little warm in the summer. Has a fireplace but I didn't see any wood around so if I was going in the winter I would see if the owner could arrange a pile in advance. BBQ pit - bring your own charcoal, though again, maybe owner could provide?

The only con: it's off the grid, but the solar power gives plenty of electricity for light but - and this could be a big but after a dusty day on a bike - there's no hot water for a shower!

Hotel Al Mohit in Dahkla - 100 Dh a night for a room with two beds, although if you have double occupancy they say its 150 Dh. Bathroom down the hall

Chez Adil in Cap Sim (Oussam), the little village on the cliff north of Sidi Kaouki. Family run surf hostel, good food, super people. 150 dirham includes breakfast and dinner.

Camping Rekkam West end of Boudnib. French couple tun it, beer in the fridge, really good space. 70dh for a tent, 200 something for le demi maisonette.

Cafe Sahara at south end of piste from Boudnib to Enfold. 100dh gets you dinner and a carpet and good hospitality.

Camping Tissint between Errachidia and Erfoud, in the palmerie of Ziz gorge. Nice, clean, cheap, Chef Ali Is a good guy. Epicerie (offlicence) near main Sq in Errachidia

Rekkam Boudnib camping is a great site, with an owner who gets you a cold beer whilst checking in after a hard day on the piste, they do fantastic food and its a nice place to relax and meet the other guests

Rue Antaki, when on the large beach avenue (Mohammed VI) out of the port, take a right up when you see Marco Polo hotel. Old style pension with en suite little rooms and a lovely courtyard. Wifi. Bike parked on a little patio with a gate. Tip for the gardien.
100m up on the corner there’s a popular restaurant, Romeo, where you can eat extraordinary grilled fish.

TANGIER

On Boulevard Pasteur. Ideal if you want to be near the center but not in the medina. A classic, central 1929 small hotel. Large rooms with bathroom. Friendly staff. The rooms on the street side can be noisy, lots of traffic on a saturday night! There’s an underground park (30mad) not far, next to the Rembrandt Hotel.
Look for Bashir restaurant, another popular and cheap place full of moroccan families, 2 streets away on the back of the hotel.

Parked the moto outside the medina in a underground, near Hotel Madrid. (2MAD / hour). But the next day I rode the bike into the medina to pack the bags

Confortable option in Fez, right next to Batha Museum, near Bab Boujloud, main access to the medina. Beers and wine at the bar. No Wifi in the room. Large rooms en-suite, with balcony. Underground park at 100m at the roundabout 30MAD / night. Not the cheapest option, but a safe bet.

The only place we slept in our sleeping bags on a bed! An option when it’s raining at night and you are tired and starving… it’s a roadside restaurant where you can also sleep upstairs. My gf still talks to me, even though she got sick eating a tagine there. Shared bathroom. No hot water, no shower that day

“Lovely place with exceptional attention to detail inside and out” It’s just like Chris Scott wrote, a lovely place with great food, and great shower in a beautiful en-suite room. One of the best stay oa the all trip. Wifi only works in the reception / dinner and breakfast area. Very nice staff, no “suspicion atmosphere”, just a noisy big groups of spaniards spoiling the peaceful atmosphere. There’s a new place right next to it: Kasbah Amezay

Japan meets nordic meets moroccan adobe minimal and frugal style Kasbah. Beautiful experience! Very nice staff, en-suite simple room, delicious dinner, nice breakfast in a flowery patio, beautiful sunset on the terrace! This place is in a half ruined Kasbah, where you can walk around and explore right in an oasis in the Draa, where you can stroll without kids asking you for money, or people hassling. Just walk around and observe people just doing what they do. Wifi. Bike parked in.

Own by a half belgium half moroccan couple, it’s a lovely place! Small but lovely en-suite rooms, with views on the valley. A nice closed large balcony for meals also with a view. Good dinner and breakfast. Very nice staff. They organize trekking routes and the guide was very helpful, giving us informations on the MH19 piste conditions.

Nice place. Simple, basic, but clean. There are rooms en-suite or with shared bathroom. Same price. The owner has a garage in the some building, he didn’t charge anything for the bike. There’s a good restaurant next to it, owned by a helpful guy, who also owns the auberge La Valle des Nomads, on the southwest of Msemrir, which was closed due some construction works.

This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was one of our favorite places. Like if you’ve been placed in a Paul Bowles novel set, with a vintage ambiance. En-suite large room with the sound of the nearby souk, in a reddish purple retro style hotel room decoration. The lobby has a large old moroccan map painted on the wall, and upstairs there’s an unused dusty bar and a large dinning room all set for a dinner, it looks like since the thirties and that may never happen. We stayed 2 nights. Bike parked in the hotel.

You can camp (we did) or stay in rooms. You can use the swimming pool and have dinner (100MAD / person) and breakfast or not. You are next to the dunes. Really. Very nice, relaxed place. No hassle. Nobody asked us if we wanted to ride camels into the sunset, or sleep on dunes camp overnight.
There’s no luxury, but for the price of camping, a really and deserved luxury for us. And we walked on the dunes on the sunset.

Imilchil - Auberge Almou
 

if you go to Imilchil, go to Auberge Almou, the onwer and manager Hamid is a very nice and helpful guy. Refused to let me pay for tea and coffee I ordered while staying there. Reasonable price. Clean place.

Across the street there is a garage he owns where my bike spends the night. Also, across is a motorcycle mechanic who workes on Chinese, japanese and french bikes but is knowledgeable about stuff. I had some issues on my bmw he was able to help.

When you drive to Imilchil drive all the way untill you reach the other end of the village and the hotel will be there on your right hand.

Si vous allez à Imilchil allez voir Auberge Almou, le proprio Hamid est tres sympa et serviable. Il refusé de me laisser payer pour le thé et le café que j’avais commandé. Prix raisonable. Lieu bien propre.

De l’autre côté de la rue il y a un garage qui lui appartient ou ma moto passe la nuit. Il y a aussi un mécano moto qui travaille sur les petites motos chinoises japonaises et françaises. Mais il est connaisseur, il a pu m’aider un avec un problème sur ma bm.

Pour trouver l auberge conduire a travers le village jusqu’a atteindre l’autre bout du village et vous le trouverez a votre droite.

Here are my recommendations, based on a few weeks' travel in Morocco in 2015. I've checked more recent (2019) reviews of the same places on TripAdvisor, and there are no reports of ownership changes or things getting worse.

I prefer to stay in 'better' hotels (not necessarily 5 star, but just 'nice'), and the selection below reflects that preference.

Kenitra - Hotel Mamora - a nice hotel in the center of the town. Clean and quiet. An Art Deco property from the 1940s, the lobby, cocktail bar, and Lido area are almost historical - one might expect to see Bogart & Bacall walking in for cocktails in the evening. I parked on the street in front, with no worries about security.

Zagora - Le Sauvage Noble - This is a delightful boutique hotel with phenomenal service - coffee, tea, and mineral waters (still & sparkling) are free at all times. Meals are excellent. The owner is very active in managing the property and is present every day.

The property is newly constructed in the traditional manner, with large gardens, a tent, indoor atrium, and plunge pool area. It is located about 4 km north of the town of Zagora in a very quiet residential area.

Secure parking for motorcycles is provided. The staff speak English, French, and German. This is the kind of place that you want to spend quite a few days at, rather than just one night.

Errachidia - Hotel Le Riad - This hotel consists of 30 suites. It is modern, spacious, and well maintained. There is a big swimming pool in the middle of the complex, great after a hot day. Wi-Fi is very fast (10 mb bandwidth!) and free. Rooms are large and nicely furnished. Very good security for your motorcycle. Extraordinarily quiet environment.

Chefchaouen - Hotel Al Khalifa - This is a 2 star hotel, nothing fancy, but it is excellent in all respects. Very modern (likely constructed within the past few years), extremely clean, comfortable beds, good heating and air conditioning, and fast and free Wi-FI.

The hotel does not have a restaurant or a bar, but coffee is available and a very nice continental breakfast (with fresh squeezed orange juice!) is served in the morning. The staff are very gracious and helpful, and everyone speaks English well.

Small hotel walking distance to medina. A guy will watch your bike and probably cars too outside the hotel for 20 dirhams per day.

Riad malak - fez
 

If you are in Fez, I will recommend you “Riad Malak” in Fes was easily our favorite riad among the ones we stayed in while visiting Morocco! Our room was bigger than most of the ones we saw at our price point in Morocco, and had the added bonus of air conditioning–after finishing our 3 day/2 night tour into the Sahara, that was a very welcome change of pace! :mchappy:
And the best thing for me is that Free WIFI is available in this place.:thumbup1:
