Chile Santiago Hostel

Christian, a passionate biker opened a great hostel.

It is like living in a community. You can use the kitchen and laundry. Safe parking, wifi, tv.
The house has a fantastic roof terrace.

Christian is very helpful, a mechanic as well.
The hostel is very central but super quite neighborhood.
Lots of cafe and restaurants in walking distance.

His english is a bit limited, but he makes up for
It with a great personality.

For bikers thats the place to go.

10 super days at casa matte Santiago chile

I can endorse above comments about Casa Matte. I purchased a new bike and had continuous help from Christian and his dad outfitting it for the trip. I will stay there on my return to Santiago in a few months. Met a number of other bikers there as well. Your bike is kept in the driveway behind locked gates. A great place to stay!

We (my wife, me and our XRV750 Africa Twin & Ural) stayed at Casa Matte in early February....we planned to stay for a day or two but ended up staying a week as it was so friendly and comfortable, with excellent company of interesting, like-minded bike travellers. Easy to get to even though it's centrally located. Relaxing on the rooftop terrace with a beer, and the Andes in the background, is nicely unforgettable. Well recommended.

Going to Chile on a bike without going to Casa Matta is like going to Peru and not seeing Mach Picchu.
And go there first - you will meet other riders and learn from their experiences, find out where the good rides are, maybe pick up a companion, get detailed instructions for the next part of your journey, work on your bike with expert local info on parts, tyres, learn some Spanish - and so much more. We did all of these things and our SA ride was so much richer for all of it. Staying with Cristian and Francesco, you're not just a client - you're family.

The home away from home

I stayed multipletimes in the Hostel and it was always a great atmosphere. There are a fellow bikers around, some starting their trip other finishing. Christian is a great host/rider, who makes you feel at home. There have been communal BBQ or just hanging in the back with a beer talking bikes.
You also find a small workhop in the backyard to do repairs and maintenance.
I can only warmly recommand to stay at this beautiful oasis.

Gracias para todos ;)

Casa Matte is a home away from home. Cristian and Francisca make you feel welcome as part of the family. The best place in town for giving your bike a bit of TLC or picking up information from fellow bikers arriving from the north or the south, or if you're leaving the continent for the east or west. A bikers hostel but many arrive and buy local to set off on a great South American adventure from this humble abode. The asados (BBQ) are great and your Spanish will vastly improve after a few piscos. bier

To sum it up. A place to relax and if you want to talk bikes 24/7 you can. :mchappy:

Comfortable & Convenient

We traveled on our motorcycles in Latin America for 17 months. Casa Matte is one of our favorite places! We stayed there twice — once our way south and again on our way north. We loved it because:
* It felt like home. It was comfortable, clean, and spacious. I loved hanging out in the living room and either enjoying the comfortable space to myself or chatting with fellow travelers.
* It was easy to get to our motos and work on them.
* The location is in a beautiful neighborhood with easy access to a grocery store, restaurants, and lots of cool stuff to do. We felt safe and enjoyed walking around. Supplies and parts for the motos are nearby.
* Christian and Francesca are kind, generous, and extremely helpful.

Thank You Christian & Francesca!

Casa Matte Hostel Santiago, Chile.

Casa Matte. Santiago, Chile.

Hostel for overland bikers. Home of all things informative, genuine, and positive.

Its a hub for overlanders, having easy in/out secure parking. Some space to work in your bike. Tools, knowledge. Mechanics locally. And other information on shipping, bike purchases and sales. And a plethora of knowledge all things bike related.

Share and respect their beautiful home, located centrally, and easily accessible in Santiago. Most amenities close by, and a lovely terrace overlooked by the mighty Andes. Most of the action is just chilling in the back yard workshop exchanging stories and mechanical info with a few beers.

Cristian has bike oil in his veins, and over time has created not only a hostel but a living oasis for the overland community. You will become richer for staying there. I have been here on 3 occasions now, and dont know a place more overlander orientated in 3.5 years traveling Latin

America. And when you go...pay it forward, and arrive with a beer.

Casa Matte is amazing!

I can't say enough good things about my time at Casa Matte!
I came from Canada in October 2016 to Santiago, looking to buy a small bike and go for adventures - Cristian and Francisca were so welcoming, kind, and supportive, it felt like family the moment I got there. I stayed there 3 weeks while waiting for paperwork, and it was some of the best time in my life. Casa Matte is an oasis for riders from all over who return time and again for that sense of home away from home. The rooms are comfortable, the shared kitchen is ideal, the off-street parking is safe and plentiful, and there is a shop area for repairs and such. I loved it so much...I'm going back this winter!

I stayed here at the start of my trip and again when waiting for some parts after going down the Ruta 7 and to Ushuaia.

There is a little fruit stall on the same road, a supermarket 2 blocks away, the mecca of bike parts Calle Lira is a short ride away.

Cristian is a great guy and a proper biker. His father Pompeyo is also a biking legend! Staying here was the perfect way to start my trip and set the tone nicely. Cristian helped me with the RUT and buying my bike and his wife Fran is also very kind, I met alot of cool people while I was there.

Also to note the building is very strong, there was a 8.3 magnitude earthquake while i was sleeping on the top floor, no problems :).

Christian at Casa Matte 2024

I stayed with Christian at Casa Matte in July 2024 and I cant recommend his place or his attitude.

Of course I understand that Christian helped lots of travelers over the years and many of you stayed there and had a good time. Sorry, but good place can turn bad and people change.

After I got scammed by a mechanic that Christian recommended (Vicente, Electrovich, just a few blocks from Casa Matte), he blamed me for it. He stated that I could have done the job myself at his place so I wouldnt have needed a mechanic.

Anyway. This is how I found Casa Matte in July 2024:

Its a really rundown hostal, freezing cold, damp and smelly place with lots of garbage everywhere. Christian only brought a heater after I had a freezing cold night in a wet room without any sleep. His African cleaner just moves the dirt from left to right. I will not go there again.

Enjoy your ride

Chile, Santiago, Hostel with parking 2024

Hostel Cienfuegos seems to be the hostel with parking in Santiago these days. Some posts talk about Casa Roja but they "upgraded" their parking lot to a swimming pool ...

However, Cienfuegos isn't far away and the two belong to the same business. You can stay at Cienfuegos with your bike and still use the pool at Casa Roja, just ask the staff first.

We stayed here when our bikes were shipped in to Santiago in September 2024 and the rooms were alright with plenty of storage, the kitchen was functional and parking was secure behind a locked gate but still easily accessible from inside the hostel. It felt generally safe and most other patrons were workers of various kinds.

Here is a link to the hostel: https://www.hostelcienfuegos.com/
