Mamallenas vs. Hotel Magdalenas (MUCH better)
 

Mamallenas is a party place for the young, but was overpriced and very dirty and noisy until midnight on a weekday. When I checked out at 11 AM, the manager tried to get me to pay another night, threw my bags in the street, called me an asshole in front of other guests several times and threatened to call the police, which told him to do. I have been traveling full time for years and have NEVER been treated this badly. :nono:

The problem in Cartagena is finding a place that has motorbike space as VERY few do. I ended up paying a nearby parking lot to leave my bike (40k pesos/7+ days, but I didn't bargain hard as I was tired) and then got a much nicer and quieter private ensuite room with air at Hotel Magdalenas (1 street over) for much less (80k) than Mamallenas (120k+) giving me a total of 600k for a week vs 840k at Mamallenas where you must remove panniers to get in.
