And, of course, way up in the northwest corner of Kenya, you will find Lokichokio (sometimes spelled Lokichoggio).

Chris Handschuh used to work for BMW. He doesn't any longer, though he uses their forms to ad credibility. If you're going there to pitch a tent and use the kitchen, you should have no problem. I had heard many good things about the place and find myself surprised to be writing this. 1 or 2 problems, I don't care- 6-8, I do. I spent almost a month there- and have plenty of complaints. I won't go into them at length here. I met 2 groups of European travelers who had been staying at JJ's off and on for 3 years or more. Both told me it would be their last stay. Including me, that makes 3. There are some good backpacker hostels that have secure parking in Nairobi, as well as many homestay options. Just try google. Chris calls JJ's an "alternative place to stay;" seems like it's time to find another alternative place to stay. If you're thinking of staying there and want to know more, PM me and I'll clue you in. Lavington is a beautiful place to stay in Nairobi. With more than 40,000kms on the road, this is my first complaint. Ride safe everyone, H.

Marsabit camping
Hi all
Don't have any GPS co-ordinates, but anyone in Marsabit will be able to direct you to a Swiss gent called Henry. He has a nice campsite about 2k out of town, with plenty of space for tents/4WDs and a large and cosy hut that can sleep around 6-8. Even better, he has a very nice workshop (tools, weilding) for any structural problems you may have encountered on the road North or South! We had a few, and he fixed them for a really nice price. Enjoy Gareth and Helen |
Hi There. Although I have not yet contacted them yet I am considering storing my vehicle at JJ, I saw 'Hooks' comments which concerned me a little, sadly I cant seem to PM, so if you can PM me with issues which could affect me I would be greatful. My biggest concern is whether it provides a safe and secure area to store a vehicle?
Many Thanks |

It is on kind of a hobby farm/carpentry/metal working fab shop. Interesting place and a really nice guy. Views are spectacular and the are is quiet with the exception of the cows wearing cow bells. Also, there is power to the covered hut AND there is a fridge that is yours to use...and they'll even stock it with reasonably priced drinks/beer if you ask. All and all a great place to be stuck at the end of the day. Marsabit doesn't offer much, but it was nice to find Henry's. |
Karen Camp
A year ago I stayed at Karen Camp, Marula Lane off of Karen Road in Karen, NBI. I'll be staying there in two weeks. Has everything you need, space to work on vehicle/bike, camping in your own tent or theirs, secure, restaurant, bar, huge camping area and... friendly dogs to love. Also tonnes of fun when the monkeys come around. ;-)
