Ive just gotten into motorbiking while renting bikes in southeat asia and taking some week long self made trips through the highlands of vietnam with a light honda dream. I am planning to buy a light honda, under 100cc's, in india, and travel for around three to four months. Was just wondering if anyone had advice on buying bikes in india, or wanted to come with me, am starting in april. thanks, JG |

The staff are super friendly and it is located just a five minute walk away from Taj Mahal west gate. Safe parking in the locked courtyard. * a great place for food is the Lonely Planet recommended Joney's Place on the "roundabout" close to Taj Mahal south gate. It opens even before sunrise (so you can have breakfast before catching those first sunbeams on Taj Mahal) and is both good and cheap. SHIMLA Hotel Rama Palace N 31deg 06min 07,3sec E 077deg 09min 01,8sec Rs 880 for a double with TV and attached bathroom (hot water). Nothing fancy, but located in a quiet neighbourhood not far from the state museum. Parking in front with watchman there all the night. MACLEODGANJ Him View Hotel N 32deg 14min 07,5sec E 076deg 19min 39,7sec Rs 550 (in shoulder season, considerably more in peak season) for a double with TV and attached bathroom (hot water). Clean, nicely decorated and homely - at this price, absolutely great value. Parking in front, with gates locked at night. Rainbow House N 32deg 14min 11,9sec E 076deg 19min 38,0sec Rs 300 (in peak season) for a double with attached bathroom (hot water). Very simple, but the owner is very friendly. Internet access just across the street. Parking in front with gates locked (not much space, but will squeeze in two big bikes). To get there, take the dirt track to the right off the Jogibara road, just between the Him View and Hunted Hill hotels. CHAMBA Hotel Aroma Palace N 32deg 33min 21,0sec E 076deg 07min 31,7sec Rs 550 for the economy double with attached bathroom (hot water). Nothing fancy, but parking inside the enclosed compound (locked at night) just outside room door. Has WiFi. SRINAGAR Hotel Swiss N 34deg 05min 13,1sec E 074deg 50min 40,7sec Rs 800 (cheaper rooms available) for a double with a fan and attached bathroom (hot water). Contrary to the information in Lonely Planet there is no internet (the closest is some ten minutes walk away), but the manager is friendly. Parking in the compound which is locked at night. * a good place for food if staying in the Boulevard area is the Lonely Planet recommended Punjabi Rasoi. The food there is cheap and tasty. It is right opposite the Lhasa restaurant which is more expensive, but the portions are big. LAMAYURU Dragon Guesthouse N 34deg 16min 56,5sec E 076deg 46min 21,1sec Rs 500 for a double with attached bathroom (hot water and electricity for a couple of hours in the evening only). Clean and very friendly. Parking in the garden, but you'll have to remind them to lock the gate. LEH Hotel Mayflower N 34deg 09min 44,5sec E 077deg 34min 55,1sec Rs 400 for a double with attached bathroom (hot water in the morning). Parking in the compound with the gate locked at night. Hotel Kunga N 34deg 09min 52,8sec E 077deg 35min 00,0sec Rs 700 for a double with attached bathroom (hot water in the morning). The place is new and the rooms are big, but the receptionist does not seem to care. Parking in the compound with the gate locked at night. |
