2nd hand bike.....BA or Santiago

Guys,

where would you suggest the easiest and cheapest place to purchase 2nd hand bike to then travel onwards throughout SA?

Orginally planned Santiago, but prices seem higher.
Im looking for something around the #2k mark.....400cc kind of size.

An ever shifting scenario.
Last info I have, please jump in to correct me......

In Argentina a foreigner with a tourist visa cannot leave Argentina with a motorcycle purchased and registered in Argentina.

In Chile a foreigner with a tourist visa and a bike purchased and registered in Chile could leave Chile, but now the Chile-Peru border has started to reject crossing, but still it is possible to go to Argentina and carry on from there.

Used bikes in Santiago, other than the Chinese crap variety, are expensive. You wont get much of anything for $2,000

I just bought a bike in Santiago. The only real optio for a 400cc bike is the Honda NX400 Falcon, and those range from $4000 for a 1999 or 2000, to $6000 for a 2007 and up. I bought a 2000 DR650 for about $4600. In my week of shopping I saw four 650cc thumpers, and all had something really wrong with them. My DR cracked it's crankcase and I am now awaiting parts. About the only non chinese bike you can get for $2000 is a beat to hell 250cc dirtbike that would go for $1000 in the USA. Late model 250 enduros go for $4000 and up.

Good luck

BTW I will be selling my DR in June (after it is fixed) if you or anybody else is interested

Cheers
