Advice on leaving motorcycle in Peru or Ecuador and returning within TIP period
Hey All,
I was wondering if anyone has left either Peru or Ecuador during their TIP period and returned in time to leave with their motorcycles. I have read that Peru technically requires you to notify their customs office, but it looks to be a bureaucratic nightmare. Meanwhile, i haven't found much info on the situation in Ecuador. Hope someone who has done this or knows someone who has done this can shed some light on the situation. Thanks! |
Leaving bike in Peru
I left my BMW at Motos del Peru in Lima last year. Felipe can take care of Your bike and if needed can make the whole paperwork to suspend TIVP if needed.
Felipe has a motorcycles workshop too so can fix Your bike if needed, but double check on pickup :), in my case they forgot to mount the rear brake pads but spoted before the ride :oops2: Ziggy |

Thanks for the advice, Kino Jeff! Can you tell me in which year was the last time you left your bike in Peru with an open TVIP? I am just wondering how up to date your information is. Did anyone at the border crossings ask questions?

Last year
If you fly in and out and leave your moto in Peru, NO issues, within the TVIP period. If you cross any borders with your moto, you will be required to exit and your TVIP will cancel. When I checked out they looked at my passport and multiple entries and exits and said nothing. They DID check my TVIP.:innocent:

Update:
Well, it turns out i was able to leave Peru without a hitch. The lady at the border just took my TIP and saw that the date was on time and didn't scan the document or anything before allowing me to proceed, she just waved me on. So yes, you can park your bike in Peru and return within the TIP period.

TVIP Chile
Great news. I know your post is for Peru however the same does not apply to Chile. I was stopped at Santiago airport until I found a resident prepared to transfer the TVIP into their name. I posted on it about 12 months ago
