Advis needed: Road quality San Augustin to Popayan
hi all,
i am in san augustin now, and want to go to popayan via the short route. some say this road is hell, but there are cars going over it, i heard, so how bad can it be? Dont´t like to backtrack the whole way via Armenia. any info is welcome! sanderd |
..apparantly not allowed to edit the post, but i meant taking road number 20.

..to answer my own question: Yes, it was pretty bad! :-)
there's about 90km unpaved out of the total of 130km between san augustin and popayan. i had a wet, misty, muddy, bumpy, slippery day. rained all day and the day before i left which caused bad road conditions. The whole road is potholes. Cold, misty & cloudy soo didn't see much of the supposedly nice scenic views. Took me 5 hours. In good weather probably faster. But dry or wet, the bad road doesn't allow you to go faster than 35km/hour max. All single and a bit 2nd gear. Arriving on pavement at popayan side and do the last 20km on winding good pavement roads was a real treat. Hellish, definetly recommended! regards, Sanderd |
