Air-shipment of my motorcycle to Chile: CARNET?
Ciao ragazzi!
I'm near to ship the motorcycle (an old BMW R100/7) from Milan to Santiago (Chile). I am assisted by a shipping agent who is saying the "the CARNET would facilitate the clearance and all the paper stuff at Santiago airport and custom". In reality, his contact in Santiago said to him that "carnet is suggested but not mandatory" but not more. Question: DOES Carnet REALLY HELP in terms of time spent to get the motorcycle back? Of course I do not want to waste my time in Santiago, but neither waste my money with a expensive (and not useful) Carnet. I'd like to ask if someone has shipped BY AIR, to Santiago WITH or WITHOUT Carnet, and have some suggestions on his experience. Many thanks for your kind help as usual. Ciao Roberto,
First of all congratulations on your choice of bike to ship to ship to Chile....( a proposito, ci sono nato, possiedo anch'io una vecchia "airhead", ed il tuo viaggio mi fa una certa invidia! ) The Carnet question comes up here often....no matter what you might have been told; you seriously do not need it, either for Chile or for any country in latin america , - end of story. |
