Anybody ridden a Kenton Dakar?
HI in a previous thread i asked the old question on which is the best bike to buy and got lots of useful information. One of which was to buy a cheap bike like a Kenton Dakar in Paraguay.
So just wondering if anyone has ridden one another chinese bike like it? Would just like to know if they are reliable, have space for some luggage and enough power to get where you need to go? Cheers |
About Kenton
Hi mate,
I've had some experience on these chinese bikes, taiga, kenton... As I live at the border with Paraguay, there's a ruge traffic of "moto taxis" to cross the border, they literally use their bikes to the full and it seems the kenton is the most reliable because everyone uses it more than other brands. Of course we can't compare with hondas, etc... but I believe, and definetly would buy a kenton for a trip the would last some months in south america. Just be prepared to buy some spare parts, as you'll notice, most of the bits of the bike don't inspire much confidence. this bike in particular kenton dakar, I believe it's 150cc, seems to be a "reliable" bike for what you want and I believe, also for the price you'll pay for it. So, for a trip of 7 or 8.000 km around SA, you should be fine. A pro of this bike is that you can find easily parts and as it's common bike, any mechanic could fix it. All the best Rod |
Another video for the pleasure where you can see the typical paraguayan roads and tracks :
Resiste TODO - KENTON! - YouTube Looks like the Kenton bikes are warrantied for the first 6000 km, enough to go to Machu Pichu or Perito Moreno and come back :thumbup1: |
Thanks for the help guys. Just another couple of questions... How much does a Dakar cost and do they have enough room on the back for a travel bag or do you need to get a rack welded on them?
