Where is the meet town. I am planning on taking an offroad rail. This has been my project for this year and should be finished around that time. I will be leaving from Texas. I think the best route will probably be to go through Arizona though as opposed to El Paso.

Hopefully I will be leaving from San Diego. I would like to go Down the Baja Peninsula and cross by ferry. Does anybody have info on the ferry's? Cost, Schedules, best place to cross, where to find info?

I have never done this by road in a relaxing mannor.It sounds like fun!(Usually riding dirt bikes on the 1000 corse.)

Answered my own question. a search of Baja ferries on the web brought up several sites The best one I found;HTTP://math.ucr.edu//ftm has the most current info. For veh import info see baja bound.com.This is an insurance site with lots of good info. I have never worried or needed a vehicle permit in baja sur. There can be confusion about vehicle permits south of San Quintien. Some tourist info centers in San Diego, say you need one south of San Quintien. Same as a tourist visa. (I have never needed or thought to get one in Baja, It is my understanding the mainland is much more strict.

I'm trying to work out a trip to the Mexican BMW convencion in Cuernavaca (south of Mexico City). Anyone planning on attending that. It's Oct. 23 or there abouts.

If I can figure out how to register, I may hit the Copper Canyon meeting on my way back to Chicago(only a 'little' out of the way. :-)

Hey everyone, Chris and I just left Copper Canyon and it was amazing. The road to Batopilas is fantastic, for adventure go back up it after a huge storm! Creel is great and offers everything you might need, take earplugs for a good sleep (at least during the weekends). In Batopilas make friends with the locals if you want to find the secret stash of Cervezas. Have a blast! Chris says look out for the burros.

We'll be leaving Phoenix on Thursday morning, Oct. 30. There will be at least two of us, proabably more. I can sleep at least a one couple in our spare bedroom and a couple more on da floor. There are several hotels very close and convenient that won't cost you a fortune. If anyone wants to meet up, let me know.

We plan to return on Monday, Nov. 3rd.

Can anyone recommend a good insurance provider for motorcycle insurance for the Mexico trip? Thanks!

Nevermind... did a quick web search and found several. AAA does a reasonable job so I'll probably go with them.

As an insurance agent in San Diego, The best place to buy insurance is at the border. Many American insurance companies will cover you to a certiian point south of the border. Companies vary the farthest one I know of is covering 75 miles south of the border. Check your policies!

THE MEXICAN GOVERMENT DOES NOT RECONIZE COVERAGE FROM AN AMERICAN INSURANCE COMPANY. YOU WILL SPEND TIME IN JAIL IF YOU ARE IN A ACCIDENT WITH OUT MEXICAN INSURANCE. WEATHER YOU ARE AT FAULT OR NOT!!

The Auto Club may sell you a policy for Mexico but make sure it is issued by a mexican company!

I see this happen all the time. The U.S. will reconize a Mexican insurance company. It is also rare to find Comp or Collision coverage for mortorcycles by a Mexican company in the San Diego area but it can be done.

This is for those who worry about such things!

We tried to get Mexican insurance from AAA at the border in El Paso. The AAA people were disorganized and didn't seem to know how to issue us insurance. And, it was going to be more expensive than we had been quoted.

So, we called Sanborn's just down the street. They said "no problem, come on over". We got insurance for 3 bikes in about 20 minutes, at about half the cost of AAA.

I would recommend Sanborn's over AAA. And I believe you can get insurance from them on the internet.

Good deal. I'll check out Sanborns. I called BMW to discuss what I needed from there to cross the border since my bike isn't quite paid off and they also recommended a carrier. I called this carrier and was told that their deduct. is $5000. Heck, my bike's barely worth that so I declined. :-)

You can also try Baja Bound.com. I have never used them. Nor have I priced them, yet. You can buy on line and they do cover the mainland. Why I haven't used them I don't know. Maybe because I'm usually dirt biking in Mex and haven'nt had the need to buy auto or mortorcycle ins. The web site has lots of good info.

I just priced it out and it was $22usd for 8 days. This price seems about right.
