Argentina Insurance
We are currently in Peru and what I have read is you need Ins. Prior to crossing Ar. Border.
Anyone have recent experience with this and your solution. Thanks |

I did purchase an insurance in Chile that are valid for 5-6 different countries including Argentina before my first border-crossing..... just in case. |
My wife and I are in Santiago and have since October 2016 crossed back and forth into Argentina ( R40 and CAustral) We have passed many police check points and have been stopped a few times, the police seemed more interested in the bikes but twice we were asked for our bike registration papers and insurance. The first time, as the papers were buried deep in my side bags, as I started to unload everything I was waived on. The 2nd time they inspected the documents carefully. The insurance was not expensive but I am not sure how useful the cover is so that is subjective. Kevin.

Sorry I should have been clearer. We have not been asked for insurance at the boarders but there are lots of check points along the roads some in very remote places, usually before main towns or boarders.

Insurance
You should be able to buy it in La Paz. Check the iOverlander app. Otherwise enter via Tupiza, or just try your luck and buy it in the next larger city after entering. I was never asked on boarders (around 5 crossings) or checkpoints besides by the very corrupt Entre RĂos state police that is just looking for something to fine you every 50 km.

In three months im Chile and Argentina, i was never asked for insurance at any police control or bordercrossings. And yes i have insurance

I also came down from Peru and was not asked for insurance at the border or anywhere. I bought 4 month insurance in Salta and it is good for all Mercosur countries. I can't find the address of the insurance place but you just have to ask around. I was never asked a single time to show my insurance papers, but one guy told me he was asked just after the border and the cop threatened to give him a fine so he gave him 10 bucks and he could go on.

Argentina Insurance
This may help.
I was never asked for insurance when crossing into Argentina, numerous times in 2014 & 2015, or during my time in Argentina. However, I did buy it from ATM while in Argentina. I don't remember now how many countries it covered. It was very inexpensive. ATM Seguros (has a map of ATM office locations in Argentina) email: atmotos@oaseatm.com.ar When you get your insurance at the ATM office it's most important to tell them that you also need full Mercusor cover, this is a green form with all of the countries the insurance covers listed on it and costs no more. The plastic card that ATM gives you is only valid in Argentina. Ride safe |
