Argentina TVIP and Visa question

Actually, two questions:

#1
My aduana form notes my date of entry as 10/07/2017 but has an expiration date of 07/03/2018. That's 240 days! Is this normal?? My visa is just the standard 90-day tourist visa.

#2
I was planning to ride into Uruguay for a week in order to renew both my visa and aduana, however, as it now appears that I only need to renew the visa I may just do a 2-3 day trip to Colonia via ferry without the bike.

Is there a minimum number of days you need to be out of the country before returning?

TVIP and Visas Argentina

Infinityjellyd, today is September 20, 2017!

There are several possible explanations at play here:

1) The enumeration of dates (date format) differs from the norm, if there is a norm, in some countries....and Argentina is one of those countries. (see article cited below)

Examples: your entry date of 10/07/2017 is probably not October 07, 2017 - a date that has not yet occurred,

but as written in Argentina, would be July 10, 2017 the date you probably entered Argentina.

Please advise the your actual date of entry to Argentina ____________ to confirm or eliminate this.

The difference is, some countries numerate like this:
mm/dd/yy
and Argentina enumerates like this:
dd/mm/yy

So in review the Argentines put the day first when enumerating a date.

This is much like our (USA) military/CIA does (10jul17) would be your entry date into Argentina. You will note the month comes second and is abbreviated.

Welcome to the world of international intrigue!

2) You have the standard 90 day/3 month visa and you can leave Argentina to renew your visa before that date, or renew it downtown at an office just off Plaza de Mayo, Buenos aires.

You may leave your bike in Argentina as long as it has a valid TVIP which appears to be until O7/03/18 or March 07, 2018. The 8 month (240) day TVIP will be issued if requested upon entry of the vehicle. You may travel to Uruguay without your bike.

3) The reissue of a 3 month visa, when taking the Buquebus (ferry) to Uruguay and return has been a problem for "tourists" who do it year after year, and actually live in Argentina. But, doing it once should not be a problem.

rosa del desierto and I became permanent foreign residents of Argentina - with DNI (identity card) We have lived in Argentina more than 10 years...
This process took three years, Interpol and FBI checks, proof of continued financial support, health checks, fees and a lot of running from office to office. Many tourists try to skip this complicated , time consuming process or perhaps have no visible means of support and
simply exit and enter each 3 months. The authorities are tightening up on this group. Argentine immigration and tourists laws vary depending on which country you are from, and how your country treats the Argentines....

Hope this helps, others are welcome to comment.

Eat, Drink and know that different countries enumerate the date differently.

Thank you, xfiltrate.

I am aware of the date order used by most of the world (why we Americans use mm/dd/yy has always been a mystery). I was just surprised that the TVIP was for so long (240 days!). Most other countries I've traveled through in Latin America give TVIP of 90 days or less (the longest was 180 days in Mexico).

Anyway, thanks for the info. It's very helpful. I'd head o Uruguay this weekend to renew and get a look at Colonia, which I've heard good things about. Then, back on the bike to Mendoza and points beyond!

Cheers.

Bon Voyage

Great, pleased to hear you have it all sorted. FYI if you need motorcycle parking while you are visiting Colonia, check our our ad on the Hubb or click the our signature link directly below.

We have been in business more than ten years and have provided safe and secure parking for hundreds of bikes.

The old section of Colonia is the most interesting for me, keep us posted on how you do.
